so bsically that will future proof games like crysis 2, doom 4?Get an I7, overclock the **** out of it. Get a GTX 295 card and like 8gb of DDR3 ram.

considering that gtx295 can't max out crysis 1, i might recommend gtx285 sli. in terms of cpu, any quad core should be enough. ram isn't important for running gamesAzNs3nSaT1On
I find that hard to believe when I know the gtx 260 non core 216 can max crysis and play 30-40fps
After coming back from the future my analyse of game specs that are in the future are:-
Crysis 2 - Intel i12 with Nvidia GTX1205 or ATI 8750 HD
Doom 4 - Intel i11 with Nvidia GT1100 or ATI 8600 HD
Rage - Bluray, Intel i11 with Nvidia GTX1150 or ATI 8700
Sorry, but noone can tell you what will be needed to properly play those games. However in reality if you went Quad or preferably I7 with 4Gb RAM and a ATI 4870 or equivalent Nvidia card you should be right. You can get a $800 video card like 4870x2 similar, but video cards are the PC item that can become outdated quicker than stale bread.
I'd recommend a quad-core CPU and a motherboard that supports SLI or crossfire. Buy one decent video card like the GTX280 or the Radeon 4870 to start off with. If you find out your GPU isn't powerful enough to run the games at the settings you want, simply buy another one and run them together. Keep in mind you will also need a decent power supply if you're intending to run SLI/crossfire with these cards. You'll also want at least 4GB of RAM.
Well for me, I'm getting a future proof rig so I may as well tell you my parts.
EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI X58 Intel Motherboard
xfx geforce gtx 285 black edition (This version comes with higher clocks and such, I know I can do that myself, but I would rather have it preclocked since I really don't want to screw up)
6gb ddr 3 triple channel ram
intel core i7 920
850watt psu
The reason for these parts is everything is overclockable and is brand new technology. When I feel that games are starting to get harder to run, I will just get another geforce gx 285 and over clock some of my parts and there we go. Especially with the brand new technology, games will be further optimized to fully use them.

Precisely, I am a witness. Since that is what I am using right now, Crysis is very playable at very high settings with a GTX 260. I get around 30 fps.
Crysis 2 will actualy be less hardware intensive than crysis, Crytek wants to bring it to consoles, I don't have a link but I know this for a fact (I think I read about it on tomshardware or soemthing.) I would wait until the next generation of grpachics cards if you want top performance. The ATI 5870 comes out in a couple of months and the gtx 380 by the end of the year.
