I'd also like to take that a step further and say Adventure games require developers thinking and being creative, being clever, being funny. Ans sadly we have very little of that in the industry and what we have is destroyed by the big publishers making modern warfare shooter 16. But when people buy then it's hard to blame them, it will bite them on the ass though.nutcrackr
this is a good point, but if what you are saying is true it means that there is no demand for this genre anymore.
The adventure genre isn't completely dead - Telltale is doing great things with Sam and Max, and their new IP (Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People) launches next month, and a lot of ex-lucasarts guys are working on a great-looking adventure game called A Vampyre Story.
The Golden Age is long past, but the fire still burns.
sam & max series has been getting excellent reviews, and it looks like telltale games are continuing to produce adventure games. there are games like gray matter and a vampyre story coming out that look equally as exciting as any of the headline-grabbing titles. there was the longest journey and syberia series. the genre seems to be doing fine and may even be making a comeback of sorts.
Check The Adventure Company's games, their product have pretty good quality.thusaha
i checked em out, any certain ones you'd recommend?
Adventure games and RPGs require thinking and most people don't like using that ability (or don't have it) and prefer FPSs and hack n slash gamesDarth_Kanethats an ignorant thing to say
I think adventures games are more popular than ever but in a different fashion. Games like Mass Effect and The Witcher include elements of adventure games. Games are much more cinematic and interactive now which also comes from adventure games.
Other genres have assimilated much of adventure games and as has been mentioned there's some very good developers like Telltale that still make adventures.
