What do you guys think about a western-themed online FPS, like Day of Defeat or Team Fortress 2 but western-themed?
Also how about a Western MMO like WoW but with a western spin?
What do you guys all think?

I would certainly be interested in a Western themed MMO. They'd have to make it slightly fantastic in terms of technology or some kind of magic, but I would really be interested in that. After all 80 billion MMOs with a fantasy theme, I'm surprised no one has gone that route.
I'm not so sure about a shooter though- seems like it's been bad luck for developers. The Call of Juarez demo was total garbage.

ehhhhhhh
Well, it might be interesting for a while, but I can't imagine a western themed game having lasting appeal. It would almost have to be just about 100% PvP. The only PvE I could even possibly think of is killing bandits, maybe hunting for food, or to thin the population of wolves for a farmer or something lol. Just seems like it would get boring quick.
I'd rather see a good Western GTA clone. No, I did not like Gun. Herrick
Dude you didn't 3rd person yourself....are you feeling ok?
Anyways my friend and I were talking about this and how great it would be for an MMO if MMO's could actually work like real life.
He thought of people becoming saloon owners, running gambling dens, sheriffs, outlaws, news traveling slowly, bar fights, duels...
The only problem is people wouldn't want to be store owners, saloon owners or gambling den owners when you could be a sheriff or outlaw.
To make a western MMO that is succesful, it would have to be something more like Firefly and Serenity was.

Yeah, that would be a problem. The only way I could think of solving that would be to make the leveling system require you to start as one of those.
But then you would just end up with thousands of saloons, gambling dens and stores everywhere xD

Actually it just depends on what you can do. A lot of people just like crafting and helping others. Something that got lost along the way with WoW and newer MMO's. If there were very good benefits to being like blacksmiths/saloon owners/etc. you would find people interested in that. There's actually an audience in MMO's for those who don't like combat as much as the socializing. SWG before they ruined it was one example.

I think it could work if there were a lot of things people could buy/customize in a saloon/gambling den... And even in a player run bank there would be a lot of action with bank robberies and hiring security.
My friend an I also talked about a wanted system. If you rob a bank in one town, the only way people in other towns would know is from posting wanted posters in other areas and word of mouth. Bad deeds shouldn't spread across the gaming world instantly.
The beneifts of being a crook would be to start your own gang, control your own gang hideout and it would be easier to get rich faster.
benefit for a sherrif could be discounts at stores, chasing down criminals and collecting bounty and a weekly pay.
Then we were thinking that at any time a good guy can go bad if they wanted to, and if a bad guy laid low long enough, they're bounty would go down and eventually they'd be able to settle in a new town without any bother if they wanted to turn their riches into a saloon or something.
My friend and I talked about all different things for hours and how great it would be. Land purchases, home building, starting towns, train robberies, gold mining... we thought about everything that makes a western movie good.
