It was free so I downloaded from gamespot and I am wondering if I should proceed to install it. I heard from a lot of people that it is a recrutement tool(Not sure who is dumb enough to join because of a game) and that it was somewhat poorly done. Do you think it is good and worth playing?

Thanks

It's easily the best free FPS ever made, retail worthy even. However it's not for everybody, especially those who are used to arcadish FPS games like Counter-Strike, CoD ect. Most of the time you die in one hit, there are no respawns. If you're a fan of games like Operation Flashpoint/Armed Assault you should give it a try. Hell, give it a try anyways....I don't know why you bothered downloading it if you have no intention of at least giving it a shot.

It was alright. I got bored of it pretty quickly and removed it after about 3-4 hours of play time.

It's interesting, worth trying. Even the training is fun... except for the medical training.

The propaganda sucks though!

Outdated in terms of realism? What does that even supposed to mean? It's one of the most realistic games out there...To my knowledge the only game that surpasses it in the realism department is WWII Online.

I remember playing the original a few years back at my uncle's house. I remember it being really fun, but at that point I had never really played online shooters, so it could just be that I didn't have anything to compare it to. I think they've added alot to it since then.

I used to play regularly for a while, but I just...stopped. But it was/is fun nevertheless.

Gamespot pipes suck....Go for gamershell or something. Either way as far as download time is concerned, it just depends on your ISP. The game is a 2GB download, so it can take hours or it could take minutes......all depends on your connection.

It's probably one of the better free games out there. But honestly you'd be better off and spending the money on a better FPS. If I were to compare it to other retail games, I'd give it a 7.5.

My current favorite MP FPS I play. Most people would say I play this since its a old game and its easier to run than other current online fps's, but thats not true. I play this game for the gameplay, I love it. I was in a clan for about a year and half before I left, and those were some of the best gameing times I've ever had ( and still have amazing gameing times, even though Im currently clanless atm).

Its a different kind of FPS, slower and more tactical. No respawns. Bullets kill in 1-2 hits. Slower movement speed. Etc. Give it a shot

America's Army is one of the all time great FPS. Some of the best fun you can have online if you get a good group of guys with Teamspeak. However, the game is definitely showing its age. It needs an upgrade to unreal engine 3. All the animations need to be redone as well and some of the bugs worked out. Last I played .... there were a lot of hackers who ruin the game. :(

Definitley give it a go. If you can get past the technical limitations and find a server with good people and no cheaters then you should have a blast.

Oh, I know Gamspot's download speeds suck. That's why I was curious what his download speeds were :P

I recommend it. I played it about a year back, and I really enjoyed it. I'm not much into FPS nor online multiplayers, but I liked AA. It was easy to get into, the training was fun and even my good ol' system was able to handle it on high graphic setting. There was also a lot of players back then and surely there are probably still a lot.

I used to play it quite a bit, it really is a good game if you have the patience to get into it, it's not really something like BF where you can just jump in and start racking up kills. You also need to do some training missions before you can play on all the maps and use all the weapons. I recommend it, also AA3.0 should be coming soon.

It tries to be realistic but several design choices means that it decays to medicore arcade shooting instead.

You have a crosshair and the target point is static on the center of the screen which basically destroys the need for using the sights. People take far too much damage to be killed which means spamming and circle strafing will win over precision. You can still fire accuratly while moving and strafing which supports spamming over tactical play.
