What do you think about this Gaming Laptop?

I was thinking of getting a gaming Laptop; since, it's my first time I have ever bought a pc (gaming computer) I was wondering if it could handle high end games; such as, Starcraft 2, Portal 2, or even a game like Battlefield 3... (idk if that's pushing it). Basically i want to know what it can handle on high (texture quality/resolution) with a good fps. Also it would be great to hear criticisms about the specs if there are any... thanks, and sorry if this thread has caused any trouble ^_^

I realize that a Desktop is a better choice (More Power/Cusomization/Upgradable Parts), but it specifically needs to be a Laptop. I picked this model specifically because it was the best I could get in my local computer parts store. Also the visual looks are irrelevant,I also don't mind the extra weight since it will only be moving from different work stations,but if there are any models out there with metal casing, decent sound systems, or better prices and specs at a better deal I will be open too hear it...

i never understood the point in getting a gaming laptop with 1 hour battery life. Anyways, I would get a kik ass gaming pc for like 800, get a netbook for about 250 ( I recommend the acer aspire one with amd fusion c50)

It's true that i could get a pc for less cash(with more customization and power)... but i personally wanted to get a gaming laptop for more of an "on the go" use. Seeing as i enjoy both my Dj -ing and gaming to be a bit closer to me as i do travel a lot and as you know a desktop isn't exactly the most convenient thing to carry; In addition, a subwoofer i think makes this a decent music station, if not a good gaming laptop.

It should run Starcraft 2 and Portal 2 on high with ease, Battlefield 3 is a bit iffy as the recommended specs haven't been released yet. Most current games should be able to run smoothly on high settings though. Just keep two things in mind, this laptop is quite bulky, in terms of both size and weight, and the battery life will probably be 2 hours or less. Also, a desktop with similar performance can be bought for considerably less cash, and with the difference in price you can probably buy a netbook to carry on the go. It all comes down to what it's going to be used for.dk00111

I'd recommend either the Alienware M11x or Dell XPS 15, as they're far more balanced, portable-friendly models than the usual 7+ pound/17.3"/1 hour battery life gaming "laptops" out there while still providing solid gaming performance. Plus both were just updated to Sandy Bridge CPUs, so depending on how much power you think you need to can either get a shiny new CPU or a sweet deal on an older model.

Coincedently i was looking into a forum talking about both these Laptops and I gotta say that I'd go for the Asus. Not because it looks better, but because battery life is extended at about 2 1/2 hours making it around 4 1/2 hours in total. This is really convenient if not great since most gaming laptops barely pass the 2 hour mark with all there components running at a high rate. Either way both models are good, but im willing to pay more for that little extra kink if yah know what im saying XD

I have the G73SW, and you certainly will NOT see 4hts 37min of battery life. I and most others seem to avg around 3hrs.

However, with that said. This laptop is great, the CPU handles everything incredibly well, and overall cooling is good and not noisy.

If you want a bit cheaper than TigerDirect, amazon has the G73SW-XA1 for $1400. Only differences are:

XA1 = dvd burner, 750gb, 1yr warranty/ 1 accidental

XT1 = blueray, 500gb, and 2yr warranty/1year accidental

The GTX460m isnt the best mobile GPU, but it runs rather cool, in most cases I dont go above 70c in a 80f room. I prefer gaming laptops as well, less power, less heat expelled, and best of all, easy to move around. Checkout the Notebookreview.com forums if you want to read more about the G73, there is quite a large community over there.

I hope you work out, that laptop, like most gaming laptops are heavy as hell. Maybe consider something lighter? Check out dell.com

I got the dell xps15 and it runs most games on high even crysis with most settings on very high. only problems are when I try to go to my 1080p plasma, then I gotta scale down the graphics a little bit but only on the super high end games. I maxed portal 2 no problem in 1080p last night... I did OC my graphics car a lil bit though

GTX460m seems to be doing pretty good in modern games. I get full steady 60fps in NFS Hot Pursuit 2010, with highest settings at 1080p. Same for Burnout Paradise, full 60fps, highest settings, at 1080p. I can't say I've tested in Crysis 1 or 2, but I havent read about any performance probs with those games on the forums. GTA4 runs pretty decent, at high settings, but I understand its not a very optimized game and its mostly CPU dependent which this 2630qm handles it well. I turn down the settings to medium, except for textures which i leave at high. Draw distance, etc at default but car density to 50 and leave res at 1080. I dont seem to dip below 30fps and easily hit 60-70+ fps when inside. Bioshock 1 seems to get a steady 60fps at 1080, all on highest settings. Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 steady 60fps at 1080, all highest settings + some AA. Hrm, can't think of any other games, I don't tend to play the latest and greatest games, so for me 460m is certainly all I needed. However, max temp I've gotten in furmark was 80c in a 75f room. Stock 3dmark06 score I got was 14,088, 3dmark vantage = p8285 and 3dmark 11 = p1826. When I ran all those test, the 460m didnt go past 68c, which was quite amazing. You can easily OC the core from 675 to 850mhz. Jumped the 3dmark06 score to 16,239. but in games you wont see that much of a significant boost.crazymonkey092

Hey guys I already checked out the new laptops people have been suggesting and i compared theAlienware M11x, Dell XPS 15,Sagernp8130, to the Asus G73 models and I gotta say thanks for the great ones! After seeing all these models It's a bit hard too choose with all these great deals and similar specs. It was a rather high tie between the Sager and the Asus, but I am willing to pay that extra bit for a couple extra features the Asus has. I'm still gonna consider the Dell XPS 15 for its good performance even if there will be some OC. But hearing that the G73 can run while staying really cool with its large coolers at the back, which is gonna be a big bonus since I'll need too use mine constantly in my music office.

If you're looking at the XPS 15, you should also check out the Asus N53SV. They both have about the same specs depending on how you configure the Dell, but the Asus looks a bit nicer. However, keep in mind that the N53 and the XPS are in an entirely different league than the G73 and the 8130. The N53/XPS are multimedia laptops, so they're going to be a bit lighter, and will have a better battery life, but the 540m they come with is much weaker than the 460M on the higher end gaming laptops. The 460M will usually give you 20-30 fps more than the 540M, so keep that in mind.dk00111

Wat, we are in a dilemma. I like to look professional because I am myself am awesome. Also laptops that are all curvy and fancy make you look like an ass.

I wuv the styling on the Sagers :) So sleek, rugged, and super nice build quality.

I recently got an Asus G73SW and I love it. I have to admit, Its been a long time since I've had a PC that I used for gaming. The only thing I wish it had was a Solid state drive. But I'll get one eventually. Other than that I've got no regrets getting it.
