Nothing wrong with Vista, I've got 64-Bit and it works perfectly with everything I throw at it.
Get Service Pack 1 and update it on a weekly basis.
Vista works great for me, and my rig is worse than yours (see sig). I want to try Windows 7, because from everything I have read- it is faster, uses less resources, and is just about as stable as vista is now (and yes, vista is stable for just about all of us).
Edit: and bootup time is fast, couple min till I am fully up and ready to do what I want... I want to reformat to get it speedy again. Make sure msconfig is set-up with what you want going at start-up, ditch any bloated anti-virus (aka norton, mcafee, trend micro), and use the latest drivers. Also, turn off unwanted windows features, like tablet support.
How is it compared to vista? I hhave to leave vista ,it's causing me allot of headache . So i have to choose between XP and 7. Vista worked great the firts 2 days after installation but know it's all messed up.yetiHUNTER001We dont know, Microsoft has only released the 1st beta so its far away from the final version. It will probably end up looking like Vista but performing a bit better.
It feels almost exactly like Vista with a bit stripped out. Most importantly for most people, it isn't named Vista.MakariIts a trimmed up Vista, it should be a service pack release but that ain't happening... lol Im not sure I like the new taskbar, just a simple icon is a bit lame, and Mac like... The mouse over functionality I do like though.

So Vista users just got ****ed over? Or will they still be updating it? Working on 3 OSes seem like a bit of a pain...I wouldn't be surprised if they stop updating Vista or XP some time soon.

I don't know about screwed over. Windows 7 imo is to Vista what XP was to 2000 imo... Except XP in that case was more bloated, but in terms what what becomes the next mainstream consumer OS. MS will still support XP and Vista with updates for years.[QUOTE="kaitanuvax"][QUOTE="Captain__Tripps"] Its a trimmed up Vista, it should be a service pack release but that ain't happening... lol Im not sure I like the new taskbar, just a simple icon is a bit lame, and Mac like... I think mainstream XP support will go into 2010.
Windows 7 is faster and slicker on my computer. But every computer is different, so youll have to test it for yourself.Jamiemydearx3compared to what, xp or vista?

My Windows XP runs with 18 processes idle. Windows 7 runs with 33 processes idle. Vista is around 43 processes idle.
If you have the beta. And btw, when is the official beta released? Will there be a 64 bit version of the beta? I'm planing to ge it because vista is failing for me . Nothing works as it should. Games lag allot ,takes 5 min to boot up ....yetiHUNTER001dont know why yours takes so long to boot i have vista 32 bit and mine boots up in about 30 secs and i have a E6320 @ 3.0ghz and 2GB of ram maybe im lucky but vista has worked perfictly for me :)

Isn't it the longest running OS by MS? Somewhat atypical of the company if you ask me...

[QUOTE="Jamiemydearx3"][QUOTE="Daytona_178"] compared to what, xp or vista?Daytona_178Both. Sweet! So does it just respond respond faster or does it use less system resources? I've done a couple of comparisons of win 7 vs xp.. For example, WinRar creating an archinve out of the win 7 iso, the numbers are not pretty. Win 7 25:41, XP 20:30. But 3dmark is practically identical, with win 7 even beating XP on sm 2.0. But the differences on each were like less than 1%. 7zip doing the same thing as winrar (creating an archine of win 7 iso), was actually faster on win 7 as well, based on 2 minutes of processing, just looking at the KB/sec processed. I think Winrar does not like like Vista/Win7, its always been slow...

So just toss the name, make a new name with the existing improvements, and watch people flock to it. :D[QUOTE="Captain__Tripps"][QUOTE="kaitanuvax"]I don't know about screwed over. Makari
your probably right there.
So far the majority of previews for Windows 7 are looking good. Hopefully there will be some downloads left after I get back home from work - classes. I loved Vista's Aero interface and many of the new sidebar designs, however, faulty hardware drivers from ATI forced me to switch back to XP.
I'll be installing it on my desktop's 2nd seagate and my touchscreen tablet. It'll be interesting to see the changes from both perspectivesand how well the OS runs in terms of compatability.
If Windows 7 performs to expectations, then all MS has to do is get themselves contracted with stardock to implement UI designs such as a nice neat little dock and I'm sold =P
You are having troubles with Vista so you are going to get a beta for more stablity? are you insane?[QUOTE="yetiHUNTER001"]If you have the beta. And btw, when is the official beta released? You think you had troubles with Vista, just wait until you install a beta OS...this should be funny
http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=3236&page=2Check out the link to see how bloated Vista is and how much faster Windows 7 is. The beta is free to try, if you dont like it you can go right back to Vista.
My download is 80% done. Can't wait to set it up and running.I will use it as a primary OS.I'm only concerned about punkbuster.I heard that it doesn't work on 7.I have crysis wars so IT HAS TO WORK.yetiHUNTER001My only concern is the security, is there alot bigger risk for a site or someone hacking your pc and getting credit card info or anything like that? or is that kind of security about the same since its based off Vista?
