This is the physics engine they are going to be using in GTA 4. It's also going to be in the indiana jones game, and the new star wars game.

The question is how far is that going to be implimented. Will this be implimented on NPCs and the player himself? Will that extend to the entire environment?FreyarHunterIt's really up in the air about how much they will impliment, but NPC's is a must. How many of you would like to punch someone off a building and then they grab onto the edge like Jones, and then plummet to their death. I am cruel:)
It is using that engine, but that doesn't mean it is going to look like the exact quality of the game.Rockstar pledged support for the RAGE engine. So, there ya go, you now know what GTA 4 will look like.

yeah, the small and confined area of the table tennis game allows for vastly more detailed visuals - the large, open world of gta4 probably won't look anywhere near as good
it will most likely look like saint's row, only slightly nicer (being a year or whatever newer) - we can't expect much more from an engine built for consoles
GTA games never looked good...crappy models..crappy textures. Gameplay is where it at and they always deliver..so I dont think the new GTA game will be a suprise graphics wise.DarKreThat is because the scale was so big for the hardware that was out and that they began developing on for their 3d versions ....a PS2. Now though! We are light years beyond what the PS2 is able to push out and Rockstar knows this and I am sure GTA4 will be a looker because honestly thats all people can bash GTA for sometimes.......game looks fugly! I am sure Rockstar has something great up their sleeves not just for Graphics, but for gameplay to. Its going to blow us away and show everyone why they own this urban genre.

I hope not lol that game looks like crap.
GTA4 has already had some exposure as far as I can recal... some of the facial details in the pedestrians seems just plain astounding.FreyarHunterRumor
I was actually playing GTA: San Andreas yesterday and I was thinking about how the next-gen graphics would affect the experience in GTA IV. For me, the cartoonish graphics of GTA III, VC, and SA fit well with the satirical, over-the-top style of social commentary that is central to the series. I wonder if having realistic-looking character models and such will conflict with this style at all?  If you feel like you are actually in a city walking amongst innocent civilians (as opposed to blocky NPC's with terrible AI), going on chainsaw massacres on the sidewalk might feel a bit strange.
Has any one else wondered about this?
i always liked the artistic style of the gta series. saint's row looked kinda 'all-over-the-shop' to me personallysj420

Glad to know I'm not alone in thinking that the style of graphics we've seen in previous games fits the theme of the series perfectly. To me the GTA games are more pleasant to look at because they succeed at creating a living breathing world in ways other more technically advanced games fail. And like PCgamerX mentioned, the cartoonish style of graphics contributes to the comical feel of many of the acts you comit in the game. If character models looked eerily realistic, I'm not sure if I'd be able enjoy the same random acts of crime I'd normally enjoy (at least when attacking innocent bystanders).
