I just bought this game a few hours ago, and never knew about the crash bugs that it has. From the time of installation the game crashes upon start each time. I downloaded the 1.3 patch and even with that it will no start the game. I also ran the command prompt that seems to work for most people and turned off the Vista Aero interface when I play the game. It will not get past the message "The Witcher has stopped working" and Microsoft does not find a solution to the problem when it searches online for a fix. This is the first game I have bought for my new PC, and I am excited to play it, but am becoming very let down thus far. Please Help!!

Have you tried updating DirectX and your video card drivers to the latest versions? Bioshock was crashing on me in DX10 mode initially, but updating my DirectX drivers got it running solidly. This is on a computer I just bought two weeks ago.

The Witcher ran on a p4 3ghz, and a gf6800 256 and 2gb ram. It is not very demanding... as mentioned above try updating your drivers, its only the witcher that crashes right?

I've heard the game does not like ATI cards...

That sucks. Did you restart after you install the game?

Are you using the Catalyst drivers from ATI or the Omega drivers? Not sure if that would fix it...but I've found the Omega drivers to be more stable than the official Catalyst ones.

Ran as smooth as silk on my old 8800GTX. Crashed once or twice, but ran fine it did.

that sucks, sorry to hear you are having problems. For what it's worth, if you like good stories and RPGs and beautiful art, then the game is definitively worth the effort it takes to get it to run.

no problems in vista here, plays smooth as butter. Also the game is under the "games for windows" thing i think, so its made with vista in mind.

They must have fixed it, because I played it a long time ago.

Go out and pick one of every flower you find within a one mile radius. Crush with Mercury, Drink and enjoy the Witcher.

Make sure your video card is not overclocked at all. Also do the fan fix.
