what games have you bought more than once? which one did you buy the most times? and why did you buy them multiple times?

i used to have a lot of games back when i was still under my parents' roof. all those dos games in those nice big boxes and detailed manuals *sigh*. but i threw them all away. don't ask me why; i can't even remember why i did that.

and then i lost quite a few while moving around; there was one time when i left for a year (3 years ago) for uzbekistan and japan, and i had stored all my games in my friends' basement, and when i returned it was all mixed in with other people's stuff and some things were thrown away. anyway, so i recently repurchased fallout 1, fallout 2, and nolf. and i'm planning on repurchasing a lot more in the near future (id software games, kotor, system shock 2, and torment (if i can find them)). and it looks like i'll have to repurchase bg2: tob, cuz i broke my disc accidentally *sob*. and i bought the orange box, because it was too good a deal to pass up, even though i already had hl2 and hl2: episode 1.

what are some of the games you repurchased and why and how many times? i'd imagine some of you will say that you purchased multiple versions of the same game (x360, pc, ps3, etc.).

I bought FarCry, then 2 months later, AMD gave me a free copy. I used to work close to an office where a few AMD employees were working, and they gave away some free copies of Farcry for people to take.

I own two copies of KotOR, one came with the Best of Star Wars PC pack and I already owned a copy but got my $30 worth with Battlefront, Republic Commando, Empire At War and Jedi Outcast... very much so. I technically own two copies of Metal Gear Solid 3... but it may or may not be considered the "same." Snake Eater and Subsistence.

I usually only buy a game a second time to replace a disk that has been scratched beyond repair or completely broken. This happened to me with Oblivion, Thief Deadly Shadows and No One Lives Forever. With NOLF it was the second disk with all the 60s music on that broke (wrecking a new DVD drive in the process), and I was never able to get the original version of the game again, only the GOTY (which didn't include the music). That annoyed me actually, because I liked some of those tracks. :/

Other than that, I ended up with three copies of Morrowind (because it came free with some hardware I bought) and the same happened with Ghost Recon. I suppose technically I ended up with an extra copy of Galactic Battlegrounds when I got the Saga version with the extra campaign. The same happened with Dungeon Siege: Legends Of Aranna, Unreal Tournament 2004 which came with UT2K3 maps (I'd already bought UT2K3), and Rune Gold, which came with the core game plus the MP expansion. I ended up with NWN Platinum edition when I bought the NWN2 deluxe edition. But I don't think those really count...do they?

The only game I bought twice is CoD2, I lent the game to a friend and he never returned it, so I got a new copy off steam.

I got the Black Box free with my GPU, so I didn't have to get double copies, just felt like I had to tell everyone that.

hey, same thing happened to me! i had to settle for the goty edition too after losing my original nolf game. i didn't realize that the goty edition is missing those tracks (i just got it; i haven't even opened it yet). :( you'd think that a goty edition would have more content, not less. weird.

The Il-2: Forgotten Battles game three times and Pacific Fighters twice, kinda. I bought IL-2. Then they announced an expansion called Forgotten Battles, so I was excited about getting it. It was delayed and delayed and then announced that Forgotten Battles would be a new, stand alone game. Whatever. I bought it when it came out. Then they released the Ace's Expansion Pack. I was living in Japan at the time and, for some reason, the expansion was never released in Japan even though every other title was. I went on holiday to Thailand and found IL-2 Forgotten Battles bundled with Ace's for less than what they were charging for just Ace's back home, so I grabbed it.

Now I had 2 copies of IL-2: FB. Next they released Pacific Fighters. I was loving IL-2 so I coughed up a bunch of extra dough to order it from Europe the day it came out (was still living in Japan). I was pretty disappointed as a lot of promised features were missing. They said they'd be released when the US version of the game came out, but they lied. (Turns out they got sued by some weasel at a US defence contractor who said the name of a WWII US plane was still part of the company's IP and if the game devs wanted to us it, they needed to buy a licence. Unbelievable).

I was kinda underwhelmed with Pacific Fighters and I was even less happy when Ubi announced that the next 2 game patches would require payment and were only available by download. Nevertheless, I coughed up the $10 per update. Great updtaes, worst digital distribution system EVER! Luckily most of you have never heard of Boontybox, and you should count yourselves lucky.

I was really getting ticked off with Ubi over the lack of promised features and the terrible digital service and I was thinking of just not bothering with the 3rd update. Then they announced IL-2: 1946 would be on DVD and would include all previous releases. I was really cheesed off that I'd dropped $20 on the digital downloads and went through days of hassle trying to get the damned things to work and now they were releasing a DVD with everything for only $30.

I swore off IL-2 until I went back to Thailand and found the DVD for $11. Thank you Thailand. So now I have 3 copies of IL-2: FB, 2 of the Ace's expansion, 2 of Pacific Fighters, and 2 of the Pe-2 and IL-10 expansions.

Anyone wanna trade?

Funny you should ask. I've done that quite a few times. I buy a game, play it, sell it on ebay, then feel like playing it again and rebuy it. It's pretty rediculous. Recently I did that with Rainbow Vegas 1 for a different reason: I bought it on amazon, then it came out on Steam a day later. I didn't want to wait, so I bought the Steam version and sold the other on Ebay.

wow, that's a really detailed story. i enjoyed reading it. i'm planning on getting il-2 1946 one of these days, as soon as it's released on steam (come on valve, do what you promised to do so long ago~!). sometimes, i'm glad i'm so cheap that i wait for games to drop in prices or be released in bundles before purchasing. sometimes, it's an excruciating wait. but your story made me glad i never jumped on the chance to play il-2. :P thanks for sharing your story.

Sometimes. Probably ended up losing money though. So, I'm trying to kick my selling on Ebay habit and just keep the games I might play again.

i had to rebuy Unreal after i'd thrown the original out during one of my giving-up-gaming phases:

also re-bought Deus Ex (got rid of the first time because didn't initially like it)

Star Trek Elite Force 1 (re-bought to use the TOS mods)

would gladly re-buy SS2 if someone produced a new shiny new Windows Xp version

The only game I've bought several times, other than WoW (simply just to get more accounts - wich I rly don't think apply for this thread ;)), is Starcraft :)
I bought it once, and my disk broke. bought it the second time, with the expansion, and my expansion disk suddenly disappeared. Third time I bought the set again, and now it's sitting nicely on my desk, so it can always be found :D

Starcraft is actually the first game I ever install on my computer after a format or w/e :)

Super Puzzle Fighter 2 turbo Once on pc and then a lot later, on ps1.

If HD version ever comes out for PC (doubt anytime soon if ever Capcom Statement ) I'll get that twice for multiplayer over LAN.

Starcraft broodwar set. Twice. Y? Coz it's awesome.

LOL...Mafia was one of my favorite games of all time. I bought it the day it was released back in 2002.

I then sold it on eBay a year later when it was just sitting around collecting dust in my closet.

Last summer, I had the urge to re-play it. God Bless Circuit City for keeping really old games in stock. Bought it online for like $ 4.99 and replayed and re-loved it. :D

Hmmm, nobody here played a game, get so angry at the result that you rip the CD apart, squeeze the CD like a piece of paper, then uninstall the game on your PC... without having a backup CD, and later regret and buying it again?

the only one i can thinkof is baldurs gate 2.

the first time i got it...it wouldnt install. it would get to a certain point and just stop. i dod all the usual HDD checks and cd checks...but it wouldnt play ball. so i gave it to a mate for his birthday (cheap skate i know).

soon after i replaced that PC, i saw the collectors edition of BG2 (complete with Tshirt :D) so i picked it up again. worked a treat too and it was a fnatastic game.

thats the only one i can think of on PC anyway.

i got metroid prime 1 back for my GC. i traded that in but regretted it...saw it for a fiver in the shop and said why not? mmmm metroid prime on PC.

EverQuest I bought twice. I purchase all expansions up to GoD once, where I quit. I pay monthly fees for about 2 years, prolly less.

City of Heroes/Villains I pay monthly fees for about 2 years, soon to be a little over.

Some Civilizations titles, sometimes I will go buy the collector editions or something, even if I already have the original...

That's about it.

I don't understand all of this buying a game mutliple times. Unless you're getting it for a different system (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) to play online with friends, or if your disc broke, I just don't get it. To the person that said they have 5 copies of FEAR on 360.....can you give me the story behind that? LOL

Hmm Max Payne 2, Morrowind - first purchased it individually right when it came out and second was the goty edtion but I never did end up playing the expansions much lol, Far Cry and Doom 3. I sold those two but then bought them again to test out my new rig back way back.

Oh yeah and WoW. I bought it due to all the hype when it first came out and ended up hating it and then lost my account.. I then picked it back up again in late 2005 and ended up loving it and playing for atleast 100 days +... yeah I know.. I'm just glad I gained control again lol.
