I'm looking to purchase a gaming pad (like a console controller) to play games like silent hill 3 on mah pc. I've tried it with the keyboard and it was absolutely unplayable. From what I've read there don't seem to be any decent gaming pads on the market atm >.> They either break or have some minor quirk that really annoys people. I require recommendations! Its true!

I would probably have to say there is no 'best' pad .... its mostly all personal preference. I have a logitech dual action pad that i think is pretty good i juse use it for games like GTA, same problem as you its pretty rough with the keyboard and mouse. Anyways my logitech is essentially a PS2 controller so if you like that style check it out. If you like the XBOX style you can just get a 360 controller for your PC

360 controller is a solid choice. A tad expensive but worth it.

Microsoft's new "Games for Windows" certification requires that the game is compatible with an X-Box 360 controller. So in your decision making, I'd make sure whatever you buy emulates that controller.

I have a 360, so the wireless 360 device receiver for Windows was an easy choice.

The 360 controller works really well with the few games I use it for. My only problem with it: the D-Pad is horrible. Not sure if the wired version made specifically for the PC is any different, but it's not a big deal unless you play fighting games or something (even then, the thumbstick works well enough for me.)

i tried using my 360 controller and it depends on whether the game supports it or not. Crysis supported it but you couldnt adjust sensitivity (even the max mouse sensitivity is not enough... tf2 spoiled me cause i play on 20 :P).

TF2 wouldnt let me use it for some reason, it only used one control stick (yes i know i would lose but i was going to use the controller to let a console playing friend play TF2 :) )

Its better to make sure that the games you want to play have some kind of support for a gamepad to make sure that it is easy to use.
