Drakensang - Finished my 5th run-through, this time with a female elven spellcaster. This old-school RPG is a sheer joy to play.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems as though female characters are more athletic, more limber than their male counterparts. This little elf actually performed what looked like 5 to 6 foot high leaps prior to delivering a massive sword strike. Impressed me enough to where I took a couple of screenshots of her while I had the game paused between melee combat rounds.

It usually depends on the armor types. If the males have cool armor then I have no problem choose them, but typically the modelers spend most of their time on the female armor/models, so I typically choose them. Better looking all around.

Female only, only way to keep my interest. The hotter, and the skimpier the armor the better!!! ;)

I do the same as well, but the athleticism of this particular character was impressive. Most games usually don't have animation of coordinated leaps + weapon strikes together in a seamless flow.

It depends on the game. Fallout 3 for example I wouldn't play as a girl without mods.

The fact is majority of games are male dominated. Can't do anything about that.

That's a good point, having fun is what we buy a game for. Sometimes in the rush of everyday life, we forget to have fun.

It depends on how well the various models are done, and how much I'm going to be associating with other players, I guess. In WoW, I like the way the male characters look, and don't want to have that awkward "uh, I'm really a dude" conversation. I'd maybe make an exception for the Blood Elves. In Guild Wars, where I spend most of my time in my own instance and can't stand the way most of the male characters look, at least for Prophecies, then most of my characters end up being female.

If the game doesn't have an option, like Diablo where the gender goes along with the class, I'll play whatever is most fun regardless of gender.

I once had to leave the room and let the game randomize my character, I had not bothered to even check the gender and it produced a female so i ended up a lady dark elf.

I was fine with that and enjoyed the game for quite awhile. since then I have decided to do the same on occasion and I play what ever comes out.

male, lots of males seem to like being females in games. Some say so they get something nice to look at? I don't see it, all my rpg chars are male if possible

I used to play strictly as a male character, then one day I just decided, "What the heck. Why not try it?" So I did. Doesn't change me, and I still had the same level of enjoyment. No different than say, you really hate ogres, but you decide one day to build an ogre character.

Edit: And on the other hand, it does increase the amount of replayability - more character choices.

If I have a choice, then I would choose female. I have a motto: "If you're gonna go out there and kick some ass, you might as well look good doing it."

Male. I always see female characters being hit on, so it seems the only reason to play one is if one guy is looking to be hit on by other guys. Although, I play female if I want to play a specific role, and that role doesn't give the option to play male,

I'm a guy who always plays a female character if it's available, and if male/female romance is not a big part of the game.

It really depends. I will not main a female warrior/berserker/etc, as I find females to fit better in dresses (spellcasters) than men.

If I have to stare at the character's ass for the whole game it might as well be an attractive one. That being said I usualy create several characters, both male and female. The male ones tend to end up being too much like the real me, as in boring, while with the female character I'm more detached and can play the role I want.

I play female on 3rd person games. Why? If I have a choice to see male butt or female butt the entire time I play a game, I have to go with female.

Female.

My friend gives me crap, so I just tell him "Dude, if I am going to spend hours looking at a characters backside, I want it to be female"

And I agree, female characters look lithe, athletic, and they just seem to work better as assassin-type characters (I always play rogues or something stealthy in RPGs)

These days I seem to be leaning more towards female characters if there is an option. Ultimately it doesn't matters. I've a blast playing Nomad in Crysis, JC Denton in Deus Ex, and Garrett in Thief. As long as the game is fun I'm good to go with what ever main character the developers created.

The main exception to that would have to be Obilvion and Fallout 3. The girls in these games have decent faces but look like they haven't eaten in a month.

Both.

Half my WoW characters are male, half are female.

First Fallout 3 playthrough was as a male, second time I did it with a female char.
