What Good Multiplayer?

I'm looking for a game that has good online multiplayer. And do all PC games have free online multiplayer? If I buy the retail version can I only pay with people that have the retail version and not with those who downloaded it say from steam for example. Thanks.

No matter where you get it you still play with the people who bought the game. I would suggest Left for Dead 2, Counter Strike Source, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield Bad company two, possibly MW2 and Cod4. Also Day of defeat source is pretty fun for realistic WWII. Hope this helps.

get team fortress 2, and no you don't pay to play online, only in some games like World of Warcraft, but that's rare. You get matched against whomever is on the server you choose to join and not some auto-match crap. On Steam you can add- or be added by other users. You will also be able to fight against anyone who bought the game.
