nvidia has never held the best price/performance card in its history except for ONE time and that was the geforce 460 gtx (awesome card btw). I think the 7950 is the best price/performance, but in your budget the 7870 is great as well.

Whats quite amusing is the actually best bang for buck card is the 7770 - however this wont last long for gamers. Depending on Budget you would have to move it into price range and its like:

~$100 is the 7770

~$200 660 or 7870 both are fairly well matched would depend on the availability of OC versions and their price. Goes something like OC660 > OC7870 > 660 > 7870 so which ever card fulls into your price + maybe free games at the moment. @ Stock the 660 is prob the best here.

~$250 7950

~$300 is the 7970 or 670

PS prices may be a little out due to my rough translation from pounds

Get whichever is cheaper/has the features you want.

I would go 660 for nvidia software but that's just me (660 is cheaper in UK too i believe)

I'm from romania , europe. Its more expensive here than in the US, the gtx 660 is about 260 dollars. the 670 is about 475. the 7870 is 325 the one thats on stock. also 330 for a GTX 660 TI jet stream.costyssj4

I will try to find the review that went in-depth into the design, I can't recall off the top of my head what card it was but there was at least one if not two cards that had something extra funky with the way the MCs were setup.

8800gt, gtx 260, gtx 460 were the best nvidia cards at those times! and now the gtx 660/660ti is the best price/performance card. I cant say anything about amd cards as ive never own one.

if you have a heatgun, some solderballs already, and a clamp, then yeah the stencils are cheap

(assuming you already have a soldering iron, wick, etc)

a radeon 7950 can run farcry 3 and crysis 2 at 60 fps everything maxed, it is the best bang for buck card you can buy right now in the $300 price range.

my is a 690 gtx,i say why buy a 670 or any 7xxxx card from amd and last 18 mths or so when u get top card that lasts 4 years with proper care.

All I know is I got a GTX 670 for $289 after rebate and it includes a $20 gift card plus Borderlands 2 and Assassin's Creed III and I already have a $20 offer for Borderlands 2 which will lower the cost of my GTX 670. The deal was at NCIX Canada. Oh and as for the AMD cards mentioned in this thread you don't get to play games the way they were meant to be played whereas with Nvidia you do as you get full physX.

I dont have extreme AA on mine either, and the game still takes a toll on my 7970. I can run it with extreme AA but I enjoy having frames at least above 40 most of the time. I haven't oc'd my card yet, so I know that will help my frames. But most of the benches show nvidia cards doing very poorly on these heavy games. Of course the 79xx cards don't do much better either but its definitely an edge over the geforce cards. This is latest nvidia drivers as well.
