is it the NVIDIA7 series? and how much would a good graphics card be? (nothing above 200)
I maxed Oblivion with some AA at 1280x1050 with the 7800GT, so I guess that around the equivelent to next-generation graphics.

Dude Nvidia owns ati, more bang for your buck and ati's best, the x2900 is only as good as the 8800gts 640mb which is nvidia's 3rd best
If you don't want to spend 200 bucks then don't get a DX10 card. The only decent ones right now are around $300. You might want to try a 7900gs for about $170 on newegg.
The ATIs GPU in PS3 is somewhere between DX9-DX10, so it should be better than x1900GT and should be worse than HD2600XT GDDR4 in my opinion
