So here is what I have:

KF-28 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+Icon+Dual+8%22+2-Way+Floor+Speaker+(Each)/2138273.p?id=1218310758886&skuId=2138273

KC-25 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+Icon+5-1/4%22+Center+Speaker/2138079.p?id=1218310760241&skuId=2138079

KS-14 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+Icon+Dual+4%22+2-Way+Bookshelf+Speaker+(Pair)/2144088.p?id=1218311139644&skuId=2144088

SW - 450 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+10%22+450W+Powered+Subwoofer/9502488.p?id=1218115619909&skuId=9502488

And the receiver is AVR1912 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Denon+-+875W+7.1-Ch.+3D+Pass+Through+A/V+Home+Theater+Receiver+-+Black/2127091.p?id=1218310410550&skuId=2127091

Thank you for taking the time to look. I am moving from my "home theater in box" to this. I really have no idea what guage or type of wire to use.

Depends on the distance.

16 minimum. I used 12 because I had some longer runs.

Don't skimp.

Oh, nice speakers! :D

Enjoy!

Twelve-gauge speaker wire will be overkill for your surround speakers. You will be fine with 16 gauge to the surrounds unless you're running more than 50 feet of wire to the speaker, in which case you'll want 14 gauge. You might consider twleve gauge for your front speakers, but it's not necessary, and you'll save by buying a spool of 14 gauge cable.

Don't forget: You'll need a single-channel interconnect to run from the receiver to the subwoofer if you don't have one already. It's basically a mono-channel RCA cable, often marketed as "subwoofer cables," to increase cable manufacturer sales margins.

I strongly encourage you to order wiring from either Monoprice or, my preferred choice, Parts Express. You can get 100 ft. of 14 gauge wire for about $50, enough for an entire surround sound system in a medium-size room. Don't forget your HDMI cables, too.

Enjoy your new home theater.

This was really helpful. Thanks! My longest run is 40ft so nothing too long. 14 gauge may be overkill I guess, but too much is better than not enough! I hope to have this up and running tonight after work. I have been piecing this together for 5 months now so I am stoked. Thanks again :)

I'd go 14 gauge for 40 feet as that's fairly long and using 14 would lessen the resistance on the amp.

Don't wanna hijack the thread but i have a couple of relevant questions (I'm planning on a surround setup sometime soonish)

What effect does gauge have on the wire, and how important is it? Does more expensive wire make a big difference?

How is the Denon AVR 1912? That's the reciever I've been planning on buying for £250.

Wire gauge is important, because you will lose power if the wire is too small for the combination or power and distance over which you are running the cable. This will have a direct impact on both sound quality and volume. Powerful enough and you could - potentially - even melt the cable and cause fire, though this is in most cases highly unlikely. More expensive wire is generally the result of branding and marketing, though in rare cases it is because the wire uses a particular material that is expensive. There is no reason to buy brand name products when it comes to audio cables with the possible exception of RCA interconnects, which you want to make sure you're using twisted loom - which is more effective at rejecting external electrical noise and interference - but otherwise brand still doesn't matter. Happy gaming, Boz

Unfortunately, I cannot; you'll have to shop around for a discount retailer in your area. You can start with EBay and Amazon, and see if any of their retail partners have their own online storefront in the U.K., and work from there. Good luck, Boz

The Denon AVR 1912 is pretty awesome so far. It took some time to learn how to properly use it because the last unit I had was simple and didn't have its own GUI. The Airplay is awesome and easy to setup. 875 watts is plenty for my surround sound. It is definitley a great buy for the money.

Update...

I did get my system up and running. thanks for the advice. I did go with 14 gauge Monster wire all around...it is hidden so I don't worry abou the size. I also used Monster Brand banana clips which are fantastic. The sound I am getting through my speakers is unbelievable. Couldn't be happier.

Thanks again everyone :)

Bought the last AVR 1912 in the shop (they've stopped making them now and the new series is twice the price).

I managed to get it for only £250 :D
