Original is still my fav, factions is short but sweet, and I haven't played into Nightfall much yet. I have the first true expansion pre-ordered and paid off, though :)
I have only played the orginial so far,I think you should get it first since it 'starts' the story,and you should be familliar with guild wars,and then buy nightfall or factions.
GW Prophecies (European feel) = Where it all began ..a long campaign medium fast level to 20.
Guild Wars Factions (Asian feel) = Fast level to 20 ..thecampaign is tougher than nightfall and prophecies.
GW Nightfall (African feel) = This is the easiest place to get the high level armor and you level relativly fast.
If you want the whole experience start with Prophecies, if you want to play mostly PvP then start with Factions, if you want to get the high level armor fast and level relativly fast go with Nightfall.
I only played the original Guild Wars, and found it to be rather easy, albeit, tedious at some points. Getting to level 20 took very little time. I dont know how the expansions are, but as a rule of thumb, when I get a game, I like to get the original one first, and then if thats good, and leaves me wanting more, I'll fork out the dough for the expansions or what not.
