it should be somewhere on the case, ex. front, back, side, sometimes even bottom. Its a sticker that has numbers and letters. the sticker is mostly green.
If we are talking a legit copy here I'm not sure how it didn't come with a code? you're on a home built machine right, it's not a store bought prebuilt?
Yeah, that's where I was going with my question on whether it was home built or not. I used to do home pc repair for people and it was only until like 3 people to late did I realize it was on the side as well. So um yeah.. it happens.
Alright I see you found the code, but just FYI, I seen it happen with my friend. Yeah a box comes up saying to activate it but the thing is you could click the link in the box and it will open Internet Explorer, so from IE you can access your C:\ drive and internet, but it's extremely annoying.
The code on the PC is the product/license key. It's the key needed in order to install the OS. The activation key is generated based on your product key and hardware configuration and verified by MS in their database to see if you aren't trying to install the same lincense on different PC's.
