AAA PC FPS and third person exclusives or even time exclusives I just don't understand why we can't have them anymore PC gaming is doing really good probably the best it's ever have thanks to Steam and other digital stores. Crysis was the last one I can really remember which was 10 years ago which is insane. I think PC gaming is so much better with AAA exclusives you get the most out of your machine and knowing it's not getting dumbed down for parity.Does anybody else miss these type of games here is a list of my favorites all built from the PC ground up.

  • Max Payne
  • Far Cry
  • Medal of Honor Allied Assault
  • Max Payne 2
  • Half Life 2
  • Battlefield series up to 2142 BF2 my fav
  • F.E.A.R.
  • Swat series
  • Crysis

I'm sure I'm forgetting some but man I would kill to have AAA PC exclusives back in the gaming industry. It just sucks that we have all this horsepower and it's not getting much use unless you count VR and 4K but other then that that's it. So does anybody else miss them?

All this horsepower? What do you have? There's tons of games that will make your PC sweat, unless you run low resolution/settings. Even 1080 Ti is on it's knees in 2160p in the most demanding AAA games using ultra preset. Don't tell me you're running 1080p/60Hz.

Game dev's earn much more from console games in general. There exceptions, but not many. Why would they say no to money, you can't really blame them for not focusing on PC. Optimizing/patching for consoles is way easier than PC. A few different configs vs thousands (os, cpu/gpu architechtures, software, resolution etc). Patching PC games is much more time consuming.

Most PC gamers torrent the games or wait for 5-10 dollar sale. Sad, but true. The most played PC games on Stream are the ones that look the worst / less demanding, pretty much. PC gaming is mostly about eSport titles; CS:GO, DOTA2, LOL etc. 99% of PC gamer's don't have a high end rig. The majority uses hardware much worse than PS4 Pro/Xbox One X.

I'm a PC gamer with 8700K @ 5 GHz and 1080 Ti @ 2 GHz + 1440p/165 Hz IPS Gsync. I don't really need "exclusives". I just want the same games as PS4 and Xbox One, tell that to Rockstar, among others.

Luckily I have a PS4 Pro for the exclusives primarily, and for the games that does not come out on PC.

PC + PS4 is the best combo. I can even emulate Zelda BOTW using CEMU. I can play pretty much everything with these two devices. This is also the reason why I'd never buy a Xbox One, it has no exclusives. I can play the same games on my PC, with much better result.

I also have a gaming PC and PS4 too but my primary choice is PC for FPS and third person games and free online PS4 is just good for their exclusives. And as far as horsepower is concerned imagine a PC game built from the ground up on let's just say 970 gtx you will get alot out of that for just minimum requirements look how outdated the PS4 is and how good their exclusives look. Also I have no issues with time exclusives games like Max Payne 1,2, and F.E.A.R. they where built on PC first and ported to consoles later. I just think this whole parity generation we are living in today is ridiculous I believe everybody should get the most out of their systems and not be held back.

I think the issue is that developers make games for console, then try to bring them up to PC's level of standard; they need to develop for PC, then bring them down to console's level of expectation. The former is like trying to put a silk hat on a pig, while the latter is like watering down your soda (and they are OK with dilute soda).

Concerning exclusives, PC-only stuff, etc....we have it pretty damn good, imo. We have lots of hardware peripherals to help us play our games any way we want, from the perfect mouse and keyboard setup to IR trackers that let us move our character's head when we move our head. Indie games are present on all platforms, but they dominate on PC and have an easier time finding a home and being developed on PC due to its open nature.

PC will continue to be the objectively better platform, as it always has. Not saying consoles are bad, but when weighing the pros and cons, PC just comes out ahead if you truly care about games: game development, artistry, selection, and game playing.

There are PC-only genres like flight sims and wargames. Yet, most here seem to prefer genres that are also on consoles. So, quit complaining.

A few games on that list aren't PC-exclusive either.

If you prefer genres that can also be done on consoles, of course, the developers will attempt to release them on as many platforms as possible. I would. Why would I restrict the coverage of my product? No business sense in that.

This! So much this, I just find it funny that people like OP who just pretend to be a PC gamers who possibly never played actual pc games.

The games listed in the OP are by nature console oriented games.

I've been gaming since the mid 80's in my late teens and early adulthood. This isn't the early 90's we're talking about. We're talking about now. It was only a matter of time before technology allowed many PC-oriented genres to be done on consoles.

Besides, Doom was only PC-exclusive for a year.

I'm not sure what your getting at all I'm saying is I would love to have AAA PC FPS exclusives back on PC. But I know it wouldn't happen because the gaming industry is all about the money and less about innovation these days. And I don't care if a PC game gets ported to consoles as long as it doesn't tarnish the PC version's quality.

AAA is merely a state of mind. Many so-called AAA developers had humble beginnings: Epic, id, DICE, etc. They all started small. I still remember when retail Doom came in a box hand-sealed with Scotch tape. I don't judge the quality of the game based on AAA status.

I don't see the problem - as long as they are still on the system, what's the problem if it's not an exclusive? When in comes to PC, especially, there's no reason to be bummed about it. Chances are you can get it cheaper and run it better on your platform.

On a related note, has anyone played the new UT? What happened with that? I was very excited. That's an "exclusive"

@xantufrog: You can play UT for free through the Epic Games Launcher. It is technically an early access title, but the core gameplay is there and some of the maps have been finalised. It is good fun.

This is what I miss from PC FPS that don't exist anymore minor gripes but they annoy me.

  • F5 to quick save to F9 to quick load extremely rare to find in new FPS these days.
  • The correct gun model size, gun models are way to big for monitors compare Crysis to it's sequels and see how ridiculous big they look it's because it's developed for consoles, TV size a FOV tweak wouldn't fix the issue they literally need to be made smaller.
  • Server list and dedicated servers for MP they aren't many new games that support this now we are stuck with random match making.

I guess I'm just old school and hate most of modern FPS design I prefer health packs to regenerating health . I prefer a more tactical FPS to arcade COD style that's why love the old Battlefield games and can't stand the new ones same goes for the original F.E.A.R. and Crysis compare them to how dumbed down the sequels turned out to be.

F5 (or the equivalent key to quick save) is still available in most SP games these days but the automated save system has taken over now since it saves at all the correct spots where you would do F5 anyway.

Also old Battlefields weren't really tactical, that's just your nostalgia thinking that. You could still go full blown COD style.

Compared to the new one's they are the pacing in BF1 is ridiculous in BF2 you have limited sprint it balance out the pacing alot better. And it's not my nostalgia I still play BF2 and it's much more tactical then BF1 and COD of course. It isn't ARMA or anything crazy like that but BF2 their is a learning curve in the newer ones it's basically COD with vehicles. I really wish the BF series would go back to it's roots and stop with the hand holding.

What i miss most is drm free physical games I could buy. Now a days, even if you can get a physical copy, its locked to some online activation system.

I have no confidence in buying pc games these days, it feels like you are renting them now and all the power is in their hands. I either pirate games or buy them several years after release. No point given them any money when you don't even own the games any more. I think the last DRM free physical copy of a game i was able to install and play without requiring some shitty online activation was probably Fallout 3.

I feel ya man I miss the days of going to Best Buy and seeing a whole Shelf of PC games and then just being able to download the files of disc's and getting the games patches from the official website of the game or Fileplanet. Gaming was just so much better back then I use Steam and everything but there is something about physical games that is special I miss the good box art also.

If it's any comfort to you, the console versions of Crysis also have a similar gun size to the PC version. It looks to me the bigger gun size is not a console-specific thing.

There are lots of PC exclusive games every year, just that most of them probably aren't the type of games you are desiring but some of them do have AA and AAA budgets but because of the genre, many non fans just ignore them. PC has more RTS, card, strategy type games than consoles ever had. Probably has more free to play games as well. There's also a lot of really obscure type games that you won't find on store fronts.

That's a rarity bigger gun size is definitely a console thing because of Television size I wish PC FPS these days would resize them the right size. Counter Strike Go actually does this right in the options menu they have a view model size setting classic is monitor and couch is for TV.

These are two FPS games I played a lot last gen. Killzone 3 and ARMA2, both exclusives for their platforms. Not that big a difference to me.

STALKER is also a PC-only game:

GTA V is supposed to be consolized:

PC already has lots of FPS games now but if you want singleplayer oriented ones then that is a different thing. I do notice that we lack 3rd person shooters but I'm fine with that.

If you're expecting a big budget PC game to be built from the ground up requiring something like a GTX 970 as a minimum requirement then you're not seeing that anytime soon and by the time it does happen a GTX 970 performance type card would be less than $100. Things like that is what kept Crysis 1 from selling fast enough to keep Crytek happy. The era of games forcing PC gamers to upgrade is long gone. Just make a good looking game that can scale across many sets of hardware. A game requiring something like a GTX 750 ti as a minimum requirement is much more realistic. Also you don't need a AAA budget to make a good looking PC game.

I wouldn't be so sure about that based off the steam hardware survey, 13.20% out of at least 150 million users are using a GTX 1060 and 9.74% are using a GTX 1050 ti. Both these cards beat the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. Rounding them off to their closest numbers there are about 19.5 million GTX 1060 users and 15 million GTX 1050 ti users. This isn't even including the GTX 960 which isn't far off from PS4 Pro performance having 21 million users. If this isn't the majority of users this still definitely way more than the amount of PS4 Pros and Xbox One X's combined.

The most played game on Steam has more than double the amount of active players than a F2P game that can run on a 8600GT and requires at least a GTX 660/HD 7850 (PUBG). Also a couple of the most played PC games aren't exactly potato games like CS:GO or DOTA 2. For example the 4th most played game on steam is Rainbow Six Siege and that requires at least a GTX 460 or HD 5870, Ark Survival Evolved is the 9th most played game and requires a GTX 660/HD 7850 minimum, Fallout 4 is the 16th most played game on Steam and requires a GTX 550 ti/HD 7870 minimum and that game sold over 2 million on PC in its first 10 days.

@NoodleFighter: well he did say majority of PC gamers, which is most likely true, sure there's more PC gamers with stronger hardware than there are xbox one x's around, but that's still not majority of the PC gamers. Speaking of hw surveys, just got the prompt to do it few days back and last time before that was bak in when I still had 780ti so my old 980ti was never listed

Of course but that is still a lot of PC gamers with powerful hardware that is close to or more than the amount of PS4s and Xbox Ones sold. I'm aware of the Steam Hardware survey not including all PCs, but there is still some accuracy to it. The majority of PC gamers are not buying cards like the 780 ti, 980ti, 1080 ti and etc we're buying mid range cards like the GTX 750 ti, GTX 960, and GTX 1060 (some call it high end but I'd say a 1060 is low end in the high end spectrum and high end in the mid range spectrum). Because these cards offer great bang for their buck and aren't too expensive. Another thing to add on to is that GPU prices have been high due to cryptomining and RAM shortages so that means there are likely several gamers that did not upgrade/build PCs due to high prices. Even if prices went back to normal now, at this point you'd be better off waiting for the pascal/vega refresh and navi coming next year and with that means there will be even more PC gamers with Xbox One X/PS4 Pro type GPU performance and above since there will be cheaper versions of cards such as the 1060 and 1050 ti.

Shotgun in Half-Life 2:

You can post all the screenshots you want you're not going to convince me just saying.

I didn't post them to convince you. I posted them to show others some notions are unfounded.
