What is a better game: Half-Life (series) or Halo (series)?

I'm taking a poll on both the PC and Xbox360 forum to see whatseries of gamespeople think is better, Half-Life (1-Ep2) or Halo(1-3).

I'm going to be posting this exact same poll on both forums to make it fair. Although I won't be voting,I personally think that the Half-Life series has more depth, potential,better gameplay, and a better story. (Not to mention it contains one of the video game industry's greatest mysteries of all time: the G-man.) :P

Well half life is way better than halo, but way more people on the xbox forum have played halo so it will be skewed.

half life has better weapons and believable characters also.

The Half-Life series. Halo would not exist in the way it is if it hadn't come out.

I agree with you, If it wasnt for Half-Life the Halo series probably never would have happened.

FOrgive me for saying this, but anyone who says Halo is a blatant fanboy. Are all Halo fans fanboys? No, but if they say Halo is better than Halflife then, imo, they are.

Sorry, I know thats closeminded of me but I just cant put it elegantly.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

They are both great and I would never be able to choose between them.

Why compare them anyway? Just have fun with them!

I agree 100 percent with nathris. Half-Life (and especially HL2) is a great title and has some great mod inspired spin-offs (in fact, I'm loving Team Fortress 2 right now), but Halo is simply more fun. Neither story is all that great, but Half Life's story really is a tad bland. That said, neither story is all that enthralling, but one doesn't play a shooter for its story...but for the gameplay and IMHO the Halo franchise beats the Half-Life franchise.

This topic has been done to death and everytime HalfLife comes out on top as the better out of the two gaming series with a massive majority.

If you are comparing Quake, Unreal, or even Ghost Recon to Half life, I can see the point. But a dumped down shooter for xbox? You've got to be joking to be posting that for comparison on PC forum.

That's a tough call because the Half Life universe is much more engaging for singleplayer than Halo. Although Halo has a much better online gameplay experience. (CS:S and TF2 not included because they are separate games that have nothing to do with Half Life).

How are the two games even comparable? really?

Halo is pretty good for a console game, but it does nothing really revolutionary. I've only really played halo 1 well enough to judge it, and it was fun and split screen multiplayers was really fun.

Half life has done really much more for gaming though, Half life was such a breakthrough, more so with all the mods it spawned, but the game itself was great.

Half Life 2 is really different from Half life in my mind. Where half life was groundbreaking and revolutionary, HL2 took gaming to an almost cinematic level, but wasn't all that revolutionary (except for the physics in my mind). The game is so well polished and immersive, even if the shooting part of it isn't that great

While I don't like the people who always bash halo, its not even close to what half life has done for gaming.

it really depends, i think. if you're looking for a more sophisticated shooter, with lots of multiplayer and modding potential, then Half Life is undeniably (way~) better. but there are things that Halo excels at too. for instance, there are more vehicles in the game, opening up for a whole new level of multiplayer content. Halo has a better soundtrack, and, in my opinion, a more engaging story.

but overall, yea, i think Half Life is better than Halo. but that doesn't mean Halo was trash....hell no. it still is one of the best FPS series out there.

HL series: great graphics, great story, great gameplay

Halo series: good graphics, nice story, nice/good gameplay

Since I've only played Halo 1 on my now, "given away" X-box.. I have to go with Half-Life..

Before that game the only other FPS I played on a console was Goldeneye.. ala N64.

Played both, and Half-life series are genre defining...whereas Halo is just an overhyped generic FPS.

They just feel and play better from which they came.

The single player experience of the Half Life series is better IMO.

But IMO the multiplayer experience of the Halo series is better than Half Life and all its mods and permutations (CS, DOD, TF2 etc.)

I play a lot of CS and DOD... honestly I haven't played TF2 yet... but I've played way more Halo than any CS or DOD.

I guess it comes down to personal taste.

I made a mistke in my post I meant that Halo just dosent work as well as it does on the console. NOT THE PC. On the PC its terribly slow and the controls are terrible. Halo for Console only.

The half-life series is better overall, although I still say that HL1 was the best of the series, although the rest aren't too far behind.

I really enjoyed pretty much the whole entirely first person aspect about it, where control was never taken out of your hands, or at least the camera never cut away to an outside viewpoint.

However, for me Halo was the first game to actually make me buy a console, as console games before (for me) didn't really interest me that much, or at least to the extrent to buy a console.

I will say that when it comes to console, nobody does FPS better than Halo.solaris1979
