What is dual slot cooler?

Would an nvidia 260gtx which has a dual slot cooler fit on a mobo with just one pcie x16 slot---confused?

To answer your question, yes, it'll fit. The reason why MFG's give a warning about the "dual slot" cards is for users who have only one rear-panel slot available in their system, or have a card occupying the slot directly under the PCI-E x16 slot which is about to be used.

So to put it short, you need one available PCI-E slot available and one slot available underneath it to allow for the cooler to fit. The bottommost slot does not need to be a PCI-E slot, but must be available to properly fit the card in place.
