To my knowledge, you need:
- An NVIDIA card
- A monitor with a 120Hz refresh rate
- Those NVIDIA 3D shutter glassesquijeros
correct.. the gpu's supported are basically any variant on the gtx 275, gtx 280, gtx 285, gtx 295, gtx 465, gtx 470 and gtx 480 and then any of the above. and the monitor must be endorsed by nvid'a 3d vision program (look it up). though ati does have plans to start one soon there isnt any news on when or how well it preforms.

I thought cards before that also had 3D support.... my 8800GTX has all the 3D options in the nvidia control panel...

yes this would be the settings for how 3d graphics are renders BUT the 8800 series (and 9800 series)is limited in its capability with 3d vision its basically good for watching pictures and dvd's in 3d vision but is incompatible with watching blu-ray or gaming in 3d vision. all of which are covered by the gtx 200 and 400 series.
Any Nvidia card from the 8800 series, 9600 GT, 9800 series, GT 140 and 300 series, GTX 200 and 400 series.
Any 120hz monitor/TV/projector qualified for Nvidia 3d. Not just any 120hz display will work, most just upscale the 60hz signal to 120hz which isn't the true 120hz needed for Shutter glasses.
Nvidia 3d kit which includes IR emitter and nvidia's shutter glasses.
Nvidia 3d drivers.
Soon, they're gonna release 3DPlayTV which lets their 3d tech work on any 3d ready display (only 40 bucks too.) this way you can use your display's own 3d glasses instead of having to buy nvidia's glasses that only work with the pc.

if you do have the right glasses to play games with 3D vision, you wouldn't have to create this thread...

incorrect you need one of a specific list of cards, and a monitor endorsed by TWIMTBP.
seriously, just go to Nvidia website and you will get the necessary and "accurate" information of 3D vision gaming.
what can be added is that "currently" Nvidia's 3D vision kit provides the best 3D gaming solution, and what's it like and how it's different from other 3D solutions, you have to try it to know.
many people don't "get" it because they haven't tried it personally. like most good things in life, 3D vision experience isn't something you can just guessestimate.
just like people are bothered by the black bars of eyefinity without actually trying it, or like people claim that Alpha Protocol is just a shooter with RPG elements without actually playing the game.

Okay Corky! A specific Nvidia card that supports stereoscopic 3D technology! So 85% of nvidia cards! Incorrect....You do not need a monitor endorsed by TWIMTBP. Are you kiddy me?. "the way it's meant to be played" all you need is a 120mhz monitor. I play on a 47" 120mhz tv and the 3d is awesome.[QUOTE="aura_enchanted"]

I play on a 47" 120mhz tv and the 3d is awesome.not every monitor that is 120hz support 3d vision. no this is real most do and for the most part you are right but lcd's of 120hz were out before 3d vision and those arent supported. and some brands after (hanns. g, some samsung and sony lcd's and some acers aswell) dont support 3d vision. you need to be sure your getting one that is. to think that every monitor ever made meeting the parameters that you describe will work is nonsese. far too many models and manufacturers for all of them to be covered. anyone who thinks differently is an idiot :P
There is actually also the "cheap" 3D version using red and blue glasses. Any gaming-worthy Nvidia card can do it AFAIK....although, obviously, you lose most of the effect of the colours because of everything being tinged red/blue. You can use any monitor too, not just a 120Hz one.
Works quite well, I tried it out myself. You get the feeling you are looking into a window rather than a monitor....but most of the interfaces are rendered 2D so you have to sort of focus on different parts of the screen. Best for games with no interfaces/HUDs. So basically, it's gimmicky, but one to impress family/people in the same house XD I believe all you have to do for this is download the latest drivers and have a look in the Nvidia control panel. You'll be able to set a hotkey to de/activate at will in games.
