I will be receiving my new laptop in a couple weeks and I want to know which is the best Antivirus software? I have used Norton in the past but there have been a few times in the past where it didn't detect a virus and I had to pay the price. However, I hear that NAV 09 is really good and way better than any other Norton. I have also heard good things about BitDefender.

If you're looking to buy an antivirus, i would highly recommend avast!

I've been running avast! for about 2 years and I have never once had a problem with it,

Nod32 is the best Antivirus I have used. It isn't free but in this case you get what you pay for. Kaspersky is behind Nod32 and then Avira and Avast are good free antivirus software.

I use Kaspersky, which is utterly superb

Stay away from Norton and McAffee. They're the definition of bloatware.

Like others are saying here, free: AVG. Payed for, get Kaspersky or NOD32.

AVG isfree for a reason... if I was you I would go Norton. I know Norton has had a bad rap in the past but NAV 09 is way different and it is crazy light on your computer. It is really the best version and you can upgrade to '10 which is just around the corner.

Yeah, I'm not recommending AVG free. It's not nearly as good as it was three years ago when it really rose to popularity.

If you want the VERY BEST protection get...

ESET NOD32 and AVG (AVG free will be fine)

AVG and NOD32 work really well togeather and if you have that setup NOTHING will get past them.

PS. Dont try to mix ANY others togeather (AVG and NOD32 dont interupt each other and work like butter on toast)

My bro had that Mcaffee and he said it was shocking (but then again he is a complete retard when it comes to comps) Hell, i have to keep fixing his PC because he constantly clicks on the "congratulations! you have won £10,000,00" Popups (haha, and he's 18 yers old)

Not encouraging any pirating to anyone, but enterprise editions of software usually don't involve cd keys because that would be a nuisance to the company. Hence if they are leaked well... yeah.

Yep, the less people that know how to torrent the better... His buddys father is some form of computer engineer (who knows what he can get hold of), the version he has installed doesn't let you update the database! Thats just asking for it. Anyway iv told him to get AVG free but he said he dosnt trust "free" antivirus (but he trusts pirate).

anyway, its his problem. I'll let him find out the hard way ; )

For a nice free antivirus, I would recommend Avira.

Avast free is the best one worth having unless you're looking to secure a whole network with an enterprise package.

Get either avast! or avira, both free anti-virus software that are on par with paid anti-virus software. I've been using avast! for 3 years now, never had any problems yet. Also you should get a superantispyware or spybot S&D along with Comodo firewall if you really want to secure your computer and keep it clean. You can also get malwarebytes to help clean your computer too. All these programs are free.

Make sure to keep you're programs up to date! Dont forget Windows Updates as well!

This is a bit off topic, but use Firefox along with Adblock Plus. Use other security addons firefox offers that cater to your needs. Most of the time you get infected by means of a Java script that runs when surfing the web. You can use the firefox addon, NoScript which turns off Java when using firefox. This may be inconvenient if you need to use web features (like streaming movies) that require Java to run, but this addon gives you the option to allow or disallow Java on websites so you can use such features. This may be tedious, but can ensure you're computer remains secure.

The best anti-virus program is yourself! Learn basic safe surfing habits, like only downloading things that can be verified as legit (by the number of downloads, comments, provider and reviews). Dont open email attachments from people you dont know. Ignore almost all popups and advertisements that you dont open yourself, especially the ones that say your computer is infected (they are scams trying to get you to get their software).

Aside from Norton 2009 I would also reccomend Vipre. I am using Vipre right now and it is amazing. It uses the lowest resources out of any antivirus and it has an extremely fast scannot to mention an incredible detection rate. If you have to go free, Avira is pretty good for free but then again I don't trust free antivirus.
