dues ex. not only the best game on PC but the best game ever made....ever imho. remains very playable to this day and still puts more modern games to shame.

lol my picks are Far Cry (even tho I only played the demo), Half-Life 2, I'll go with the Battlfields, Elder Scrolls series, Company of Heroes, and soon to be Crysis. Too many games to choose!!
I'm going to have to say the original Doom. Without it, think where (or even if it would exist) the FPS genre, or 3-D gaming in general would be today.
There are many unbelievably mind blowing games for the PC that have captivated me through out the 20+ years of playing. But I would have to say X-Com UFO Defense is the best game. I find myself when ever I play a strategy game, or anything else for that matter sizing it up to the fun factor that X-Com had. Sure there are tons of games out there with much better sound and graphics, but they just don't have that addictive fun factor that makes you want to come back for more after you finish the game.

Yes X-Com was a fantastic game. I remember being scared to play that game at night. Those alien city terror missions were tough.
No other game allowed you to do what you could do there, buitl a base, tacticaly control units, use fps to control units, pilot units.
Otherwise, I would have to say: thief series, gothic 1 and 2 (not 3 in its current state), half life series, far cry, company of heroes, system shock, dark reign (first 3d stat game) and dark reign 2
it's hard to say...i like anything that takes advantage of 64 processing ie games like farcry 64 i also played riddick 64 bit as well enjoyed those....most ppl say "i dont care about graphic" lol and such...i do if you can have awsome graphics and gameplay i say why not? for some reason it will not let me post my new sig i buit a new system and cant update my sig..i get a error code cant use doc or something like that...any suggestions i'm up for trying it out...and some ppl i say some ....complain about they dont care for graphics just gameplay...and well those are the ppl whos sytems cant see a maxed out game...thats gotta be the reason cuz if you can have awsome graphics and game play why settle for less? lol
As far as innovation and sales figures go, Sim City or The Sims, and soon to be Spore. (Will Wright  is a friggin genius.) On a personal level, Diablo 2 is my personal favorite.
Without a doubt: Deus Ex. What a shame that the sequal was so bad that it destroyed any hopes of a third in the series.

I loved Deus Ex and the whole depth of it, but I don't know why- I absolutely LOVED the sequel, also. It was more linear in story, but the actual gameplay was still as open, and I loved the story in the second game more than the first.
It's hard to explain, but even though the second game was more clunky in a lot of ways, and console-ish in some ways, the story was full of these extremely deep choices you had to make that I love and wish they had more of that depth in novels. The first game had a somewhat decent story, but for the most part it was another generic government conspiracy story in a game with extremely unique and brilliant mix of RPG and FPS elements. When you had to make choices and see that one guy who was your friend (kinda) turn into one of those cyborg things, and you saw that he wasn't actually sure when they started turning him into 'one of them', it was pretty interesting. It definitely made me think, and awesomefully enough, at the end of the game you could decide to even let that faction win the big end battle and see the ending for that.. I dunno, it was just awesome :p
