cpu: The 940 is AM2+ so it won't work on those mobos; I recommend the 955 for $5.97 less ('cause of shipping).
gpu: 5850
RAM: G.Skill 4GB DDR3 1600
CPU cooler: Arctic Freezer 7 Pro
PSU: TX750
Case: CM690
Mobo: 790X

What was the budget?

i would go with smc's build, you could maybe go for a 5870 if you opted for 1333 mhz ram instead, considering that the ram won't make more than a 5 fps difference to gaming but the 5870 definitely will. In regards to this build here, everything seems just fine, i have the same ram but in triple channel, i've heard lots of good stuff about that cpu cooler and i was also gonna tell you to pick that psu myself. As for the case and for roughly the same amount, you could get this and if you wanted to save more money, you could get that case but with a 600 watt corsair psu. I would also suggest a motherboard but i'm not familiar with amd's mothernboards other than anything related to the sockets they use. I hope this is useful.

I don't think this was one of your options, but there is a good deal on the HAF 922 with a 700w OCZ PSU. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.362542

I dont want anything like an extreme gaming rig. I just want one that optimal for gaming and such. I don't really want to spend all of it but I will if that's what i need for a pretty good gaming rig that can play current games and future games at MAX. my old one is really slow (old acer Aspire, AMD 64 antlon with integrated graphics). i want to build one from the bottom up, sort of have, the monitor a speakers so I'm okay with that.

I don't really want an all mighty 5870! A 5770-5830 or 50 is fine. I don't really want something like that for my FIRST build. ^^;

Just dont get a 5830, they perform close to a 5770, and cost just above the midpoint of a 5770 and 5850... I would go with a 5850, and later on crossfire or OC to 5870 speeds when you become more comfortable.

This is what I think you should get. Well rounded build, if you ask me:

DVD Drive: Sony DVD Drive
Case: NZXT Gamma Case
Hard Drive: Samsung F3 500GB HDD
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium OS
Video Card & Power Supply: Gigabyte 5850 Video Card w/ Corsair 650TX 650w Power Supply
Motherboard & Memory: ASUS M4A78T-E Motherboard w/ G.Skill DDR3-1600 4GB Memory
Processor & CPU Cooler: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor w/ Coolermaster Hyper 212+ CPU Cooler

Grand total: 994.35

Now, if you don't plan on getting a second video card (which the above build would easily be able to handle) and are not willing to sacrifice looks for features for the case, then you can do the following cost cuts by switching out the respective items:

Video Card & Power Supply: Gigabyte 5850 Video Card w/ Antec Earthwatts 650w Power Supply
Motherboard & Memory: ASUS M4A77TD Motherboard w/ A-Data DDR3-1333 CL8 4GB Memory
Case & DVD Drive: Coolermaster Elite 335 Case w/ Sony DVD Drive

Those changes would bring your total down to 936.26

thanks but i don't really want to use combo deals since I dont have the money yet. I have about .101% of the money needed ($133) I'll be working for a while till I get my desired $1309 for my rig.

In that case I would just save your money and wait till you can buy it all at once. You will save SOOO much on shipping alone and can get other deals as well.

Yeah, you'd best ask again when you have all the money. Combo deals can be very beneficial in terms of cost savings.

The Coolermaster is the only case you posted that i'ld even consider, also look at the Antec 300 and 900. For a CPU cooler you can get an old Tuniq Tower for $40 the Xigmatek tower heatsinks are all worth a look too though i'ld ignore the Thermaltake ones you posted. G.Skill Eco would be my choice of RAM as the low voltage allows for more OCing. X4 processor. Cooler master power supply.

It's basically the same version of Windows as the retail version without 1) Microsoft in-house customer service, and 2) ability to activate your Windows key 3 times without hassle. Both can easily be remedied through forums like this and a simple phone call, respectively. In other words: get the OEM version :P

No, you do. It's just that you won't be able to do it in three different computers (not three at once, though). Only once will you be able to do it without hassle, and any other subsequent activations will have to be explained to the MS tech support in order to get a re-activation.

oh, then that would be sort of a problem, I'm going to use it for more than one computer so I'll have to get the retail Home premium full.
