Indigo Prophecy isn't really an RPG.

Check out Oblivion though. it's a fun game.

There aren't any non fantasy RPGs. Such a thing doesn't exist.

MY TOP 5 RPGs

01. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
02. Jade Empire
03. Fable: The Lost Chapters
04. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
05. Neverwinter Nights 2

there's expansion of NWN2 just came out. Oblivion is worth to play if you didn't have played Morrowind before

Hellgate: London will be come out soon and i have highly expectation that will be good also

then what is gta?

i dont like kotor cos its roughly based on on a film. and the fighting system is horrible.

ill have a look at the games but i read a review on amazon that said thatin tec 4 there is no point improving your swordplay and stuff because you dont gain any advantages in fighting!! is that true?

If you consider GTA to be an RPG then you'll probably like Oblivion. It's a bit 'light' on the RPG aspects, if you know what I mean.

there's some false statement...

first, GTA series is not a RPG games although you might experiencing some kind of RPG aspect

two, KotOR stories isn't based on Starwars movies

i think the people on Amazon saw there's no point level-up in the game cause the enemy character also levelling based on your current level

GTA is a third person shooter or an action adventure and Indigo Prophecy is an adventure game ( the best )

KOTOR is based 4000 years before the films and IMO has the best RPG combat system. Almost every RPGs has a similar combat system to KOTOR and if you don't like it then most RPGs aren't for you, probably only action RPGs are for you ( Jade Empire, Fable, Oblivion, Vampire Bloodlines )

An RPG is a game where you gain levels and become stronger over time, get quests and make decisions ( be good or evil ) that change the story ( I'm not sure how to explain what an RPG is, but this is the best explanation I can give ), but there is a difference between CRPGs ( Fallout, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate ) and JRPGs ( Final Fantasy ) and IMO CRPGs are much better

Maybe you should research what each genre means. Try Wikipedia and read reviews on GameSpot or IGN and check which game is which genre

i see.and is that a bad thing??

i didnt mean the kotorSTORIES were but the ideas of jedis, wookies etc come from the films although there are of course new creatures and stuff, it still stems from starwars. although the whole your character being bad or good thing is cool. ill reconsider.which is better 1or 2?

okay razor ill take your word for it! i absolutely loved gta although i would like something that has more about developing your character and person. and the story line is what you make it. is there a definite goal in tec?

how is gta not an rpg? your character develops etc..... although not much i admit

GTA is not a rpg....IN RPG, YOU GAIN EXP FOR DOING STUFFS LIKE DOING A QUEST, KILLING MONSTERS ETC. Which will help you to develop your character(s).

And try FABLE:TLC and Jade Empire, these are awesome action RPG, and definatly one of my fav.

KOTOR 1and 2 both are awesome too.

Yeah, Oblivion is fantastic but people don't like the combat system. And the game feels pretty easy for the consolification.

I wouldn't call that character development. Just a bunch of stats thrown in for a little variety that's all. Oblivion, even though it's a shallow RPG, has more depth than that. Combat isn't turned based and you hit where you point at, so I think you'll probably like it.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Best PC game ever ( made by BioWare ) ( superb nonlinear story with the greatest PC story twist ever, great locations, very interesting characters )

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords - Good RPG ( made by Obsidian ) ( boring unfinished linear story with a terrible ending, very easy, boring locations, uninteresting characters, a million bugs, it's more like an expansion pack because almost everything was copied from KOTOR 1 and only a few things were added )

Even if LucasArts didn't rush Obsidian to cut so much content I doubt it would have been better than KOTOR 1 ( even with team gizka's restoration project www.team-gizka.org it won't be better ). Maybe they rushed KOTOR 2, but they also messed up Neverwinter Nights 2 ( buggiest game ever ) and it's expansion. Obsidian will never be as good as Black Isle was. IMO Bioware is the greatest PC game developer ever and I hope they make KOTOR 3 ( but I doubt it ), but I just hope they make Mass Effect for PC too ( which will be the greatest RPG ever and GOTY 2007 ) and don't wait 2 years after it's out for XBOX360 to make it for PC ( like they did with Jade Empire )

I'd say oblivion. With mods you can tweak it into an incredible game.

Honestly, I don't think there's been a good RPG released in the past 5 years (there have been some "okay" ones). And, if you're looking for a truly "great" RPG, you'll probably have to go back about 10 years or so to find it. It's a shame really but it seems like the CRPG is dead.

Oblivion certainly isn't the best RPG of recent times. The roleplaying aspects of the game were extremely basic and poorly done - the combat and graphics were probably the only thing enjoyable about it, and even those were fairly bland.

Still, if you haven't played many RPGs, it would probably be a good introduction to the genre - it introduces you to some of the basics of RPGs without being particularly deep, complex or difficult.

Anyway, the best RPG of recent times has either been one of the KOTOR games or Vampire Bloodlines. NWN2 was good, but lacked the polish of those two games.

Probaly oblivion or morrowind fit what your looking for the most. However as far as RPG's go morrowind was average and oblivion was extremely poor. If you want a deeper game,id say go with gothic 3, or gothic 2 gold. Gothic 3 is poorly optimized, but they fixed quite a few bugs with the patches, and the storyline and overall gameplay are pretty good.

Other choices would be kotor 1 & 2, and NWN.
