[QUOTE="supras989"]What would the difference be if bought a 64bit version of xp professional or a 32bit xp professional, whats the difference lolhofuldig
64-bit can detect more ram. and thats it.
You also need 64bit drivers for all of your peripherals, it does away with all 16bit support (with the exception of a handful of 16bit install apps) and there are a couple more compatability issues.
It's a bit more than that.
64-bit Windows can run 64-bit programs, 32-bit cannot
software compatibility is different. 64-bit supports less software. no more legacy support for 16-bit apps
you need specific vista 64-bit device drivers to use your hardware with the 64-bit version. Other drivers won't work
Edit : G013M beat me to it
so is it a safe idea that i just stick with xp professional 32bit? it wont harm my gaming performance in anyway? supras989
Unless you've got your heart set on 4 or more gig of ram, it'd just stick with XP 32bit. There's no improvement gaming wise to going to 64bit (and there are only a handful of 64bit games anyway), so don't worry about that.
everyone else covered most of it, however 64bit can give a slight performance enhancement than 32 bit. Also I would just get 64bit because it will start to become the mainstream in a few years. Its "future proof" as they say.
