I am talking about the price you paid and not the current market value. For me it's my monitor which cost around $320.

The most money I have burned on a single computer component is $480 on a factory OC'ed 8800GTS 640MB back in 2007. I guess technically my GPU is still the most expensive component of my current PC because the GTS 250 was merely a replacement for a dead 8800GTS and not meant to be an upgrade.

So what is the most expensive component in your setup right now? And what is the most money you ever spent on something?

GTX 480's. 550 bucks a pop each. Quite the investment, but I'm hoping to get quite the run out of them :)

My monitor. Which was £150 (LG L225WS)

Most expensive internal component is the graphics card, which was £130ish (GeForce 9800GTX+)

at the moment the most expensive component in use on my PC is my GPU. of all time it was my previous CPU....a core 2 quad QX6700. it was a money no object project..common sense and decency were not considered in my purcasing decisions :P. i cant remember if was was my GPU (an 8800GTX) or monitor...but i skimped on neither.

In my current system, the most expensive bit is the processor...about £200 odd for that.

My most expensive component EVER was an 8800GTX rolling in at some £400 about 5 years ago. Great piece of kit, but these days I think I'll skip the top level GPU and stick to the level just below.

The $300 4870 1G also had the misfortune of it breaking and getting a 5770 to replace it not an upgrade at all.

Linkage. I'm just curious. I got a dead pixel a couple of weeks ago, but it's at the upper-right hand corner of the screen where I barely notice it. I'm just preparing for the worse. Perhaps, it'll be time for a new monitor soon. :)

the most expensive thing so far is my i7 2600k. it's still sitting on my shelf unopened, along with the rest of my new build, except the new power supply. it's in my case right now because the computer downstairs needed a working power supply so i put my old one into that one. i only need one more piece until i put it together.

The all time highest I paid for a component would be my Athlon 64 X2 which was $400

Most expensive component in my desktop? I'm all but certain my Q6600 cost me around $275 at the tail end of 2007. The 8800 GT only cost me $245 or so. Most expensive component connected to said desktop? Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar, no contest. Cost $333 used, but that's affordable given the FCC stick mod, and the cost has only risen since I bought $135 worth of mods to further hotrod it with recently (specifically a Hall sensor and replacement bushings for the throttle, along with improved stick screws). That's not even counting the Thrustmaster RCS pedals slaved to it, which probably cost another $100 or so. Expensive for old gameport pedals, not so much when they included another one of those expensive Hall sensor mods. The least expensive thing happens to be my monitor, of all things-an old Sun GDM-5410 at $10. Still works fairly well. It replaced something even cheaper-a Dell P1110 at $6, which uses the same FD Trinitron G1 chassis, but its flyback started acting up. As long as my current one works, I don't see myself replacing it any time soon.

I got a link for you, but you should note, the monitor is 5yrs old, so its not in production and I dunno why I said $700, I think I was tired cos its $1500 when it released, and after bargaining got it for $1200 AUD.

600 for the 8800GTX. Meh won't be doing that again, upgrading from the mid-range section twice would be alot cheaper and yield better performance.

Not counting monitor/projector. Hmmm...that might be a Quadro4 750 XGL from back in the day (2002 if I 'member correctly). Ill see if I can find the box but Im pretty sure it was right around $1150. great rendering card.
