I used to play Runescape a lot but its not that fun so I wanna play another MMORPG but it cant be one thats pay to play. I've heard some good things about Guild Wars... Any other suggestions? Preferrably one that has a large, active gamer base.

People might hate me for saying this, but Maplestory is a decent F2P mmorpg. It's a 2-D anime drawing style, sidescrolling MMORPG, and there is a ton of things to do. Just look it up on google and check it out.
Don't think people will hate you, it has very good reviews. That's probably true! :p
I should have included a link to MMOhut, if you can't find something here, well, you're probably screwed.

[QUOTE="mkaliaz"]not all F2P MMO's are garbage, one of the best is Runes of Magic anf LotRO LOTRO really isn't F2P MMO....it just decided to go that way now...LOTRO is good.
However, most F2P MMOs are garbage.

It seems that the general concensus is that LotRO is the way to go. I will look into getting it. Thanks people!
LOTRO is good. But when you start hitting mid-end game, it "heavily" encourages you to spend money. It seems that the general concensus is that LotRO is the way to go. I will look into getting it. Thanks people!

I stand by what I said. I've played Runes of Magic and it sucks. It almost made me swear off all F2P games. It is extremely tedious and repititve, the quests are boring, the crafting system is awful, the combat system is basic at best, and it is HEAVILY influenced by microtransactions. If you want to get anywhere in that game, you have to spend money and the more advanced players probably spend more than people who drop $15 a month on a standard MMO.
Maplestory > Guildwars. Theres hardly anyone playing the game anymore, doesnt feel like an MMO at all, and the gameplay is just lackluster, feels very clunky.

You can have your own opinion, but there are loads of people still playing..
This should read, most F2P MMOs are garbage after completing level 30 and up, which is usually the point where the store purchases are designed to boost players. I can't fault a game that gives me dozens, if not hundreds of hours for free up to middle to high levels. They suit my MMO needs quite well. Since they require no investment (outside of my own time) I don't have to be concerned with cash shops, as i usually create new characters when i find myself at a stand still or start the next best thing with F2P. Ive probably put in over (and im not proud of this) 1000 hours between all my characters on Perfect World and Runes of Magic (and now LOTRO) and have not spent a dime. Not sure how that qualifies as garbage.LOTRO is good.
However, most F2P MMOs are garbage.

No, when a game is "free" I expect it not to have strict limits like LotRO until you decide to pay for it. If you want to play it somehow seriously you have to hand over money.Lord of the Rings Online is free now.
