the motherboard is Intel X38 Express ICH9R

right now it has a Q6600 overclocked to 3ghz, 1333 FSB.

i don't plan on upgrading now, but i'm curious if i were to replace the cpu, what's the most powerful replacement i could use?

thanks

Probs a QX9775. No point in going from what you have to that though.

Didn't you get a book that came with the board? Should tell you what it supports. I'm sure the manufacturer's website has an updated manual.
