What is vista basic missing that the other versions have?

I may be able to get vista basic for free, is there anything major that is missing from the basic version that is in premium?

Not that i know of. The only obvious thing that Vista does is makes the desktop look different :|

Not sure but I don't think it has the 3d flip and aero, but has everything xp has i think

It doesn't have the aero interface andmedia center. Ther are a few other things you can check out here:

It does not have the aero interface...which is open gl..i believe. Im not 100% but vista basic might not have open gl...which is needed to run many games.
