Im a Mac owner. I have bootcamp, but i dont like it. So heres the thing: Where are the Mac games??? I mean I got NWN2 and Fable TLC but I mean, where's Left 4 Dead? And Tomb Raider Underworld? Dragon Age Origins? Seriously. I think that, If Aspyr and others had a little more effort they could make loads of cash by making a mac Gears. Is there any other Mac loser out there who agrees?

Games are made where the money is made. For this same reason that is why windows-pc gaming has been gradually dying. So if windows-pc sales are down, do you really think that it makes financial sense to make games for even a smaller market for the Macs?

MAC is not for gaming and devs don't bother making games for MAC's because of their hardware, that is unable to fulfill most of the requirements for recent games. Being able to run them on low is not an option for developers, because people would rather buy the games for console than play them at the lowest settings or let's say medium on MAC, because most MAC's don't have a decent graphics card, only the most expensive model has a "decent", not good, just decent video card, and most MAC owners don't have such models because they are extremely expensive and for so much money you can get an "extremely" powerful Windows laptop.

It's all about making money, and about the hardware that is available. MACs don't sell games that well, and their hardware has a certain purpose, which is not gaming.

if you really wanted to game, you would have gotten a PC instead. if you got a Mac to use for other things like school or something, then it's understandable, but if you even planned on doing some serious gaming, you would of got a PC or even a console.

I did get Spore, and Diablo 2, and Wacraft 3 and CoD4. But i feel kinda alone you know? And i didnt really buy a mac for the games, even not being able to play a lot of games on it, iit has made me much happier than my late Dell with quad core and all that bull****. But I mean, for example, Blizzard doesnt spend any extra money on making a Mac version of Diablo III, and I bet theyll make a lot of extra money.

MAC's are more considered as business computers rather then "entertainment" computers as Windows PC's are.

See, the problem there is that, that only happens with the big games...no Mac user is gonna care if it's like STALKER or TF2 or L4D

Buy a PC for gaming...Shadowhawk000

Wouldn't a MAC technically be a personal computer? I am sure you meant Windows (as in the OS), but PC isn't actually a TYPE of OS at all or even a TYPE of computer...

Anyway yea don't use a Mac for gaming. I am pretty sure you can download some programs that can make Windows games work on Macs, but since i don't have a Mac i can't confirm that and i have no doubt if they are real they could have problems.

One reason why PUBLISHERS don't put games on Macs is simple. There can't be enough money in it. Publishers just want money so they go where the most money or cost effective stuff is and if their not on a particular system than there probably isn't enough money being generated off it. Certain companies (or developers) are cool and do bring games to Mac (like Blizzard), but to be honest besides like you and 3 other people i don't know many people with Macs.

Sorry for quickly posting (possibly double posting), but you say companies like Blizzard. Blizzard (to me) have been one of the coolest companies out there and also is a developer/publisher (even though Vivendi owned them...), but now they are with Activision so all the coolness may go away.

So Blizzard to me has always been for the gamers. They've updated all their games so after an install you no longer even need the disc (ever). With Starcraft (and maybe other games) they actually gave out a CD-Key so people could play over LAN and what not.

But for Activision and EA... who knows EA puts games on everything no matter how much their (usually) extremely bad games are. Activision on the other hand i honestly have no idea why they put CoD4 on the Mac. There is a user base out there, there is no doubt about that, but unless a company gets a publisher large enough to put funds into ANYTHING games won't come out for Macs.

EA and Activision are some if not the biggest Publishers out there (i think Activision took the lead? I don't know... mabye it was Ubisoft... Anyway i know those 3 companies (more so the 1st 2 mentioned because Ubisoft self develops more than publishs) that are big enough to put a game on something like the Sega CD and probably not lose a dime. Other than that... i don't know how many publishers have the money because i bet putting games on the Mac are risky.

Its the same, PS3 =/= 360, just like PC =/= Mac. Makes no sense to lump Mac and PC into the same forum they are completely different animals.

why produce a game that is only going to hit 5% of the pc market. If your game sells 1 million pc units (this is quit good) then you'd sell 50,000 titles on mac which will just barely cover your production costs. Add in the catch-22 that mac users aren't gamers because mac don't have many games, and you probably won't sell 50,000 units.

If you don't like bootcamp you can always try Wine, It won't play 100% all the games but will play most. I have it on my Linux box and it will play most Source games and STALKER worked decently but it did have some graphic problems

Captain__Tripps

Stop being obtuse, I think most people understand the difference between a MAC and a PC. Most people associate a PC (IBM Clone) as running Windows, and Mac hardware as running Mac OS. When someone tries to use PC hardware for Mac OS they are sued by Apple. So lets keep this about what it is, two different operating systems being lump together in one forum.

Makes little to no sense, considering MAC is the red headed step child of the gaming community. Game generally come later if at all to the MAC platform, so you get goofy post like this crying about why more games done come to the MAC OS.

I guess they thought the 11 post a year in the Mac forum would just blend in with all the PC talk :)

No, a PC, for about the last 15-20 years, has always been assoiated as an "IBM" compatible PC. The operating system has nothing to do with it. Unless you are telling me a "PC" running Linux is not a PC. So what is a Mac that only runs Windows?

The Mac OS cannot run DirectX, which is owned by Microsoft. For more games to come out on the Mac, Apple would either have to license the techonlogy for a considerable amount of money, if Microsoft even allowed such a deal to take place, or developers would have to port all their games to OpenGL. In short, it's not going to happen, just get Windows.

Games are made where the money is made. For this same reason that is why windows-pc gaming has been gradually dying. So if windows-pc sales are down, do you really think that it makes financial sense to make games for even a smaller market for the Macs?Qixote

Mac hardware is WAY too expensive anyways, and I could never recommend them for gaming due to cost. Here in Australia, the new realese 15 inch MacBook Pro costs up tp $4000 AUD. How does Apple charge that much money for a notebook with standard hardware and only 2 USB ports? I could get the Toshiba Qosmio X305 (17 inch notebook) for $2800 which has awesome hardware and better features. This is just the laptop side of things, in the desktop side of things its still just as bad.

Oh, and Windows is not dying anytime soon. Linux may have some market share in the netbook/EeePC market (not suitable for games) but thats about it.
