having to reinstall all of my software after buying a new PC. Digging up all of those old emails with License Keys is a real pain.:P:lol:topsemag55
I never reallu had a problem with that. though I usually install games one at a time.
Anyway,
Whoever is putting key sensitive 0's and O's in CD Keys needs to be thrown in a rocketship and launced into space to do some serious pondering.
Installs not checking what DirectX version I have and installing whatever version it wants to install anyway.
Modders with poor communication skills in delivering a poor readme.
That 'scan hardware to choose settings' completely undercutting what my PC is capable of.
Games that default to a gamepad--disabling the kb/m function when plugged in.
Games not letting me choose where my saved games are installed and located. Preferrably: put them in the 'My Games' folder rather than adding new clutter in the My Documents root folder...
and please, let me adjust my resolution before launching a game, so you dont start up stretched, playing your unskippable cutscene in 800x600

DirectX installers just update your libraries so they match the ones used with the developer kit the designers used. This ensures compatibility. If it installed it, you were missing it. It's not installing DirectX over your current version.DirectX installers just update your libraries so they match the ones used with the developer kit the designers used. This ensures compatibility. Microsoft posts some changes, but it would seem that developers could code a line telling the CPU to utilize what's on your drive after a version check. The Developer for the RPG "Drakensang" did just that - it ran a check for the DirectSound API, and would not boot if that API wasn't the current version.
Yes, reinstalls are a pain! Steam makes them a little less painful though... download and go to sleep. :)
Error codes. Don't give a number combonation, just tell me what the **** is making not play! I don't speak error.
Aside from the occasional purchase mistake of buying a bad game, my biggest pet peeve is having to reinstall all of my software after buying a new PC. Digging up all of those old emails with License Keys is a real pain.:P:lol:topsemag55that very thing. if i happen to buy a bad game...even though the prices are usually cheaper than retail, if i dont like a game i cant trade it back in. not really a big deal since it forces me to choose my games even MORE carefully than i usually do.
Ea sports. Useless idiots made NHL series console only. Tried on console and plays bad, much better with keyboard and mouse.
Sleepyz
I used to think this as well until I played NHL11 on the 360. Then I went out and bought a 360 just to play that game, its so awesome :D The new controls just would never work on a keyboard so I finally understand that decision
Most PC exclusives are terrible. :(NerubianWeaverThe Witcher and World in Conflict are exceptions to that.:P
truthfully?
PC gamers.
Them/we are some of the most snobby, self-entitled, pretentious jackasses in the history of electronic entertainment. Only we could be so arrogant to both claim to want the most cutting edge technology and gameplay, yet demand old school nostalgia at the same time.
We are too demanding of new games, especially those that try new things, while ultimately overly forgiving with games that appeal to our sense of nostalgia.
[QUOTE="NerubianWeaver"]Most PC exclusives are terrible. :(agpickle
How so?
I noticed most of them are either indie games, low budget RPG, or RTS that never strike me as interesting. For example Mount & Blade, I never really liked the game.[QUOTE="Marfoo"] DirectX installers just update your libraries so they match the ones used with the developer kit the designers used. There are tons, you can literally find one for almost every month of the year some years for DX9c.

I would like to hear your thoughts on this - game developers might have to drop DX 9.0c after March of 2014, as Microsoft stops programming support for XP SP3 then, and XP is the only remaining viable OS that is limited to DX 9. The reason I mention this is that Microsoft could very well decide to stop updating the DX 9 APIs in 2014, meaning future security risks could crop up.

I think it would be fine, most DX9 era hardware is being phased out already. ATI's last DX9 hardware was the X1000 series and Nvidia's the GeForce 7000 series. Not too many people run those anymore at all, and most low end parts these days match the high end stuff those days in terms of performance. In fact the phasing out should happen pretty naturally by then I would think.

Pet peeves? There are a few.
1. Full price unfinished games
2. Full price broken games
3. mods that require several other mods to run
4. Industries insistance in relying solely on copy protection to safe guard their games
5. Valve worship. Steam is just a store. Half-life is just a game. If they leave today you will survive. I promise. well, most will.
6. Digital game related petitions. Most boil down to "I want a game for free"
7. fps multiplayer. How many different variations of deathmatch and capture the flag do you really need?
8. What game should I play threads.
9. Hyping a game years before release.
I can agree with this, as I buy not just from Steam, but from other DD vendorrs as well. You can find the best deals that way, plus Steam doesn't sell every PC game. I like supporting GOG because it's owned by CDPR, the developer of The Witcher.Pet peeves? There are a few.

Crappy camera and camera controls!Elann2008Yes, I hate it when my character gets stuck and there's no collision detection, so you have to change party members, and some camera angles make it difficult to extract a stuck character - then you are stuck with saving and restarting.
