Of all time? Probably
1) Ultima Online
2) World of Warcraft
3) Guild Wars
4) Ragnarok Online
5) Dofus
Edit: Man I forgot about Dofus, that game was fun.
I thought WoW was garbarge, but with 14 million subscribers, I am in the vast minority with that opinion. The game is too cartoony and less pvp driven than I'd like... that said, here are my top 2, (tried so many MMO's over the last 5 years and they were worse than WoW)
1- Dark Age of Camelot (classic servers which no longer exist) good pvp driven game
2- Eve online (though since two expansions ago, can't think of the name) the game has been laggy in fleet battles and many bugs in general.
I'd recommend going out and getting laid instead.
Yeah, one of the only reasons I fell in love with MapleStory was because I could play it without feeling like I "needed" to -- in other words, it was free, a small download, huge community, and it was very casual.
Finally quit WoW recently after getting bored with the whole concept and the endgame gearing contest, and leading a guild was a huge chore.
Picked up EVE Online recently, now I'm in love with it. Strange, too -- I was looking for an MMO that wouldn't suck up my life, and I found this. Heck, at least it gathers stuff when I'm offline actually leading a life. xD
Warhammer Online was great after lots of bug fixes, too bad the game pretty much died instantly after release.
Dofus is just... great. Awesome, cheap tactical MMORPG with great graphics, a booming community, small download, and superb music soundtrack.
Do you still play? Vanilla WoW was a fantastic experience, now... not so sure if I can say that statement once again. Gearscore has destroyed the game completely and utterly, in my opinion.Vanilla WoW. Every single MMO before it or after it, has not caught my attention like WoW. But I believe things will change when Guild Wars 2 releases.

EVE Online because simply there's no online experience like running through half of 0.0 space in a paper-thin interceptor. I've never had my heart beat as hard or fast as it did then. :(
Everquest. I really think i should start it up again and try and get into it.. I have such fond memories of the game that no other MMO has been able to satisfy. Nothing with quite a unique and rich world as that game has. Runners up would be EVE Online (very different and interesting), and Warhammer Online (love the battleground stuff).
EverQuest is still alive and kicking with around 100,000 subscribers. You should go try it again, you probably won't be disappointed. SOE has done a pretty good job keeping it up to date. I for one want to try EQ Mac, seeing as I'm not on a PC.Everquest. I really think i should start it up again and try and get into it.. Gearscore has destroyed the game completely and utterly, in my opinion. Unfortunately no. I quit about two months into Burning Crusades. I did not like the major changes and dropped WoW altogether. It was good run!Vanilla WoW. Every single MMO before it or after it, has not caught my attention like WoW. But I believe things will change when Guild Wars 2 releases.

Like a couple of other posters here, for me it's old school Everquest. I mean EQ as it was back in 2000. My experiences in EQ are the sole reason that many subsequent companies have gotten me to buy their games/subscribe to their monthly fees to play. And nothing has honestly come close to the greatness that was EQ, even the running through Rathe Mountains naked at 2 am to get my corpse from the bottom of Lake Rathe... Dark Age of Camelot did wonders for the PvP model certainly, and WoW did make the genre accessible, but also killed that very sense of community that I think MMORPGs are all about.
Haha, I'm the same way. I've always been trying to chase that EQ "feeling" I used to get when I played that game, but MMO's don't come close these days. They focus on other things and end up with a very boring world that's not even worth it to explore.Like a couple of other posters here, for me it's old school Everquest.
