I'd get a Dual Core instead; probably cheaper too. Just make sure whatever you get uses the AM3 Socket.

here's the strongest AMD Dual Core for $103...You can also get a better AM3 CPU for not that much more; just don't get 3 cores 'cause they're not as strong.

I'm Sorry if I offended by suggesting a different CPU; but back to your original question you can do some good gaming, but its outdated technology and if you're building a new computer it'd be ill advised. If you already own an AM2+ CPU go for it, but if not PLEASE go AM3.

hogwash the higher end phenom and phenom II x3's are superb cpus ideal for those amd cpu systems that cant afford an x4 but dont want an x2

and they can preform very well not to mention you can OC them into 4 cores now and again.

Trolling... First, you are expressing a subjective opinion of a product that can be/may not be fastest in different cases and that is totally off-topic. Then, you are clearly provoking a user who points at that he doesn't have that much money and that he isn't such a gamer, so he asks for a slight upgrade, which a dual core 550 in my personal opinion wouldn't be. The best bet is to find Phenom II 810 (I think they are pulling them out of production along with tripples and duals soon). That would be a pretty worthy upgrade, although because of your pretty old motherboard I guess it wouldn't overclock well, so you wouldn't get much clock bump. I suggeset waiting a bit for the 32nm process and then getting one of those processors. You already have a decent quad.

PS: I am suprised to hear a statement like this from you MillerLight...

For the graphics card... I say wait 20 days from now (I actually have it on my calendar, yuppi :P ) and get a DX11 card. Or, if you can't or don't want to, get a 4870 which will be really cheap when the new cards come out.

Which would involve buying an expensive new motherboard and memory, not to mention the price of an i7. Not a good recommendation for someone who doesn't have much money to pump into an upgrade, and isn't much of a PC gamer. Think about it, dude.

I think someone, maybe his brother or anyone else, is using his account. This isn't the usual MillerLight. That was a totally false, off topic post that was provocative and useless in every other way.
