What kind of RPG you prefer?RPG's that happen in a modern world or ancient world

The question is:you prefer to fight with a sword or fight with a gun?of course it's about the atmosphere of the game too.

pay attention that it's not about the best games you played in the genre,it's about your taste.

for example,Best RPG I have ever played [KOTOR] happen in a modern world.but I prefer RPG's that happen in ancient days.

I like the stealh that goes with sword, you know that i mean? you can't run in hacking in most games with a sword, it adds that element of realism.

He was called out, in the second response. People repeatedly associate high technology with modernity, and magic and mysticism with the ancient world because these are two opposing transcendent threads governing our own relative (extra-temporal) understanding of the terms "modern and "ancient". :P

You should include Witcher in the "old" list btw.

I prefer modern rpg, as an esl students, one thing that keep me away from elder scrolls is its difficult-to-understand ancient english

ok aside from that, I prefer the subgenre of cyberpunk (deus ex) and sci fi, over the fantasy genre, bear in mind that 2 of the top5on my rpg list are fantasy titles.

so it is fairly close.

What about a post-apocalyptic world. :P

I tend to love sci-fi. I can play D&D-style swords, magic and dragons, but they get a bit cliched after a while. I think there are more fantasy settings possible than just D&D-style settings, and that RPG devs haven't done a really good job varying it a bit. I'd like to see more Jade Empire-style games, for example.madrocketeer

My preference would be ancient or medieval setting. The reason is most of the medieval settings are high fantasy that includes many beast creatures like minotaurs, dragons, and such.Jd1680a

That's pretty much why I picked the modern/sci-fi option - there are just too many high fantasy games with too little creativity. I'm sick of dragons, orcs and goblins. I want something unique.

Futuristic since there're too many fantasy ones.

I enjoy modern rpgs, i'll tell you why later after I come back from my trip to mars and see my alien half brother.

I like them both, but I enjoy more Ancient/fantasy themed than Modern/sci-fi.

ancient is over used many many many times.since the beginning of games and still ancient.i prefer modern.i haven't seen many on modern so i want to see how they can improve rpg to the next level.
