Hey guys, i was wondering what laptop is better out of these two? I have had a look at the stats and the only thing i can see is the Graphics cards and the HDDs. Can you guys see what the "huge" difference, dont wanna spend the extra and find out its only "slightly" better.
Toshiba P200/S04 -Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz - 2GB RAM - 160 + 160 GB (320GB) HDD - DVD - ATI 512 - Vista Ultimate - 17" Screen $ 2600
&
HP DV 9615TX - Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4Ghz - 2GB RAM - 500GB HDD - DVD-R - Geforce 8600M - Vista Prem - 17" Screen
$ 3300
For the Extra $700 - is it worth upgrading to the HP? Ok, the HDD is more but i got the WD external HDD 160x2 so it dont really bother me. Other than that the graphics card, what is better? the ATI 512 or the 8600M? I dunno lol.
I plan on using this for study when i go to TAFE next year, but also want to use it for gaming (i know Laptops aint the best ect ect) but i dont want to drag my PC to lans and so forth and like to sit in the lounge while playing games and watching TV lol.
But yes, what games would be able to play on them? I know Bioshock for example should have a problem (work collegue has the DV9620TX). How would games such as, i dunno - crysis? for example run , or even call of duty 4?
ATI 512 isn't specific enought to allow people to compare the graphics chips. You really need a model number. Here is a great article on laptop graphics chips. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568
The other differernce might be the speed of the hard drives (rpm). My (now old) Inspiron 9400 has a 7200rpm drive which was more expensive than the standard model. I've run Bioshock and Crysis on it. It has a nVidia 7900GS. I dropped the resolution and run both games on medium. Bioshock runs really well. Crysis is mostly stutter free although I do get the odd freeze here and there.
For the prices, you could get a XPS gaming laptop form dell, weith better video cards like the 8700 or 8800 M GTX.
Thats if your aiming for a gaming laptop though.
But even if you were to game, i suggest you go for a desktop gaming rig and use that for gaming, and use your laptop for just mobility and portability alone.
