Games that suit me and my needs in gaming quality. Controls (mouse and keyboard). Superior graphics. Mods. Persistent World games (MMOG's). The Command and Conquer games and Starcraft were responsible for getting me hooked on PC gaming. Also, I like building my own gaming PC. It was one of the things that fascinated me and I felt I HAD to try it for myself. :) It was worth it.

I never really chose pc, it chose me! :P
I owned the old sega and Nintendo consoles, Amiga 600, C64, a PC 286. One day this game called Quake came out, i had some money saved up and bought myself a pentium 100. Rest is history. Stuck with the PC (almost exclusively) since then .
Mouse and keyboard.
Moddability.
Lack of noobs in Quack, pro pc community, the more insulting and racist the better I like it online. OFC if you are being an anus on a microphone that's just not classy.
Graphics and MODS... another big one is game price. I have been consistantly paying half of what I would on a console for my games this year... sometimes even less - some of the deals on Steam and Gamers Gate have been incredible.
I like flight sims (not aircraft arcade games). That makes it a no-brainer.
I like the Total War games and ARMA 2. Those also make it a no-brainer.
For now, the above holds true. If the next-gen consoles meet my standards for resolution and AA/AF and they get the genres of the games above, then I might move over more of my gaming to consoles.
hey very good topic so i thought i give my own input.
pc first i ever used some 20+ year ago.
pc of course u are able to do more. i enjoy alt tabing and reading, switch music, talk to people online, an game all at once.
i hate controllers feeling. cant stand the joystick and it is either to slow or to sensitive. mouse and keyboard is the king.
pc games always have fan made modification or addons which increase replay value.
very few games that are console only that i enjoy. metal gear solid is only game that comes to mind. grand theft auto is now on pc and i prefer controls and addons on there.
console not upgradeable like pc. my pc is 4 year old or more and i am finally doing a full upgrade. but i have add parts over the years. console u cannot do this. if something burns out on console u could be in trouble as well.
my input thanks

I use to be a console only player. Started out with Atari and went to Nintendo. But with the amount of games that were starting to come out on PC I just fell in love with it. Console games just started to seem really shallow and boring (with a few exceptions). Plus there are so many different things I can do with a PC that I can't do on a console.

Sex Tetris ...
Jokes aside ... I somehow showed some interested to my parrents back in the 90s when I was a bit younger and next thing I know it I was in a frenzy in gaming ... not even a console can compete with the real gaming coming with a PC - better performance, better feel, better looks, room for optimization and moderation, mixing up several things together while gaming ( example skype conference with your folks, on the background winamp with some decent music, add up Hearoes 3 and while waiting for the other peoples turn to end you browse through the internet, check mails, sites and etc ... such a thing is impossible to do with just a freaking console). Overall the PC is the best gaming machine ... there's a user in the forum which actually has a very good banner made - instead of the PS3 - "It does everything" he's changed it to "PC - it has everything" or whatever ... respect !
P.S. Oh and from recent years - PC games are cheaper than console versions becouse of the 10 bucks added from Sony and M$. Not to mention the sales on the Steam and Steam-like sites out there which can offer you games for like ... almost free ... :P

Yeah, already bought games like STALKER from Steam for U$1.99I have been gaming on a pc for nearly 20 years. It still provides a better experience than consoles while providing more. The games I enjoy the most are also mostly pc exclusives as they are mostly RTS (total war series, supreme commander, starcraft, company of heroes) , but I enjoy diving into FPS from time to time and we all know that kb/m is the only way to do that right.
I have a ps3 and a wii at one time but ive probably put more time into CS:S than I have with all my console games combined.
I would love to be more of a pc gamer than i am . I mean the bargains with steam and all just makes it so much better value.
But I hate the mouse and keyboard controls. My hands just cant get used to them!! I am a touch special I suppose but still an xbox controller just feels way more natural in my hands.
In depth strategy games like Total War, Civ, and Football Manager are probably my favorite types of games also. But they are cool with me coz they are just point and click! The Anno 2070 or 1404 might be my next game to obsess over!
pretty simple.
Freedom! Altho I usually have 1 consoel from each gen, its always the same really, you get the game, and are told you can ONLY play it the way the Devs (or even worse, the conosle manufactor) demands you to play it. No possabilities, no flexibility. While a few genres don't take a hit from this, most does.
On the PC we are often encuraged to play around, make something new for the games, and have the choices of input, abilities, and what not.
So I prefer PC gaming, the freedom with the open platform gives the tradeoff, that I can tailor all games to fit my wishes and needs.
+ I noticed long long ago that while the entry price of a console is low, the upkeep (games, replace worn out controllers, and other repairs) exceeds the price of PC gaming by FAR. (Since I need a PC in any case where I live, the "gaming part of the pc is pretty much the cost of a GPU, so the entry price there, is not all that high).
I just started pc gaming last year in july. Last year when on the bioware social network people were talking about how much better mass effect and dragon age are on pc. I asked how and they explained to me how mouse and keyboard offer better control, graphics are better, and you can quick map keys. At that point the only games I had on my pc were ffxi, wow, and knights of the old republic. I didn't know much about pc gaming and I always just thought pc gaming was for people who didnt own consoles and only invested in a powerfulcomputer that does everything instead of buying consoles, tv's, cable, etc. I had always found the dragon age controls on ps3 boring and thought mass effects controls could have been better. I liked the idea of having portability too since I bought a gaming lap top. Another thing that appealed to me was that with steam all my games would be on the account forever plus even with my disc games I could always just re install them when I wanted to play them. I wouldn't have to pull out an old console. I got used to the controls right away and loved how FPS and RPG's played. I was unsure about TPS shooters or any other type of game but I bought a few on steam and loved them as well. Now I buy almost everything on steam and only buy exclusives for the ps3, 360, and wii. I can't even stand playing with a controller anymore. I had bf3 preordered for my ps3 when I learned my pc couldn't play it but after the beta I canceled it because I just hate playing FPS with a control now if I don't have to.
Depth. Games on the PC offered more depth to me than console games, especially racing games/simulations such as Papyrus' NASCAR Racing compared to EA's NASCAR Racing (for the PS1). Rainbow Six is the reason why I wanted a PC to begin with. It too had lots of depth and I have yet to see any game offer any of the features it had in it. Real time healing for the win.
ive always felt like consoles are for kids. I mean I want to be able to choose the native res, the effects enabled, when I upgrade, which input device I want to use etc... But the biggest thing, console games these days have horrible framerate.
I started gaming on PC, with adventure games so the mouse has always felt more natural to me than a controler. However, when Goldeneye came out, I made a switch to consoles and I didn't touch PC gaming until Medieval 2 came out. I went back to consoles when I bought a 360, but came back to PC with the rise of Steam.
see i couldnt even play goldeneye for more than 20 minutes, the game made me feel sick thanks to the framerate. around the time people were playing it, ut and quake 3 were out as well. no comparison.I started gaming on PC, with adventure games so the mouse has always felt more natural to me than a controler. Well I have both but..
Cheaper software, better graphics & higher frame rates, to be able to play games @ high native res, mods, Steam, the option to use multiple control methods besides m&kb, superior multiplat games & most of my favorite exclusives are on PC so it's a natural choice for me.
Well up until a few months ago I was a console gamer. I graduated and got a better job so I decided to buy a PC because I always wanted to be a PC gamer but never had the money or know how. After watching some videos on youtube I saw it wasnt as hard or as technical as I made it out to be years ago.
Some deciding factors were the games, at the time cheaper prices, (weren't they all 40$? before :P) graphics and mods. I'm glad I switched because these Indi games I've gotten off steam aren't on xbox. There some of the best games I've played. Not to mention I wanted to play STALKER years ago and I finally got the chance :D. I'm never going back to console!
It took a few months to get use to K/BM but I have better accuracy and movement control, so that's welcome and I'm getting better with time.
