I haven't played most of the MMORPGs out there but for those who have how does it stack up against the others like Star Wars Galaxies, Lineage 2, etc
What makes it better than the others and also if not which is your Fav MMORPG and why?
PEACE :D

Nothing. Absolutly nothing.DarKre
Well... you could have fun role playing in a Warcraft world setting, if your into warcraft.
I couldnt find myself having a good ratio of fun over time.Having fun on WoW to me took way too much time, if you even had fun. Yet... I found myself spending my days and nights on FFXI all the time, lol.
If you need a MMORPG to play, go for it! It's probably the best one out there. But only play if you like MMORPGs.
i don't like wow, but wow is great because it's accessible, in a genre which was previously for the hardcore - in the same way that halo brought the glory of fps gaming to the seething console masses, so too did world of warcraft bring MMOs to the pc mainstream; and neither game is great, they're just accessible and marketed to a crowd which is both vast and unfamiliar with the gameplay being peddled
wow is also a fun game - at least, if you enjoy building a character it is... most previous MMOs had learning vertical lines more than curves and the gameplay was often arduous and frustrating - wow is all about the quick and easy instant gratification
new + easy + fun + backing of major industry name = great
definition check: great = popular
Played it and got addicted for a month or two...
After that... The grindfest got to me... Not worth it.
because its fun?biBLioTek
Exactly. Its good, mindless fun!
The community is also great. Its not full of jerks or elitists like other online RPGs *coughguildwarscough*
PvE is also a blast, and finding a group is pretty easy.
PvP may not be the best, but its definately great fun too.
And, perhaps most importantly, WoW is the most stable MMO out there. The only time you wont be able to get on is like 5AM to 11AM every tuesday, and thats about it.
Any issues one has with WoW is an issue with the MMO genre in general, not just WoW.
1) Character Development/Customization.
2) Seamless animation
3) Countless quests and short term goals
4) Balanced PvP
5) Easily Immersible
WoW had the ability to learn from other MMO's mistakes. WoW is the Doom 3 of MMO's -- it's refined, it's streamlined, and it took a genre that's been done quite a bit, but wrapped it up into a very solid package. I guess one of the things I've noticed about WoW is the fact they've tried removing a lot of the simulation other MMO's force onto the player. Things like food, for example, aren't mandatory. If you don't eat, it won't negatively affect your character, but if you do it, your character will see a positive outcome. Death isn't the chore it is in other MMO's either. It's easy to get back up and running after dying, making the game quick and more seamless. Speaking of seamless, you rarely ever find a load time in the game. This helps keep players immersed in your world. Traveling is also quite easy. Sure, there are times you can run for a long time, but when compared to other MMO's it's not nearly as tedious. And lastly, it's very easy to level up in the game, simply because you're always on some sort of quest. Granted, these quests are just like any other MMO -- deliver a letter here, kill X amount of wolves, etc -- but because the entire game is based around quests you've now created short-term goals for your players. With MMO's being so... well, massive, it's very easy to lose sight of your goal (ie. level up, reach level XX so I get my new spells, etc), and by creating goals that can be attained within minutes, and being able to collect 20 quests at a time, you've now given the player more reasons to keep playing. It masks the level grind, and players aren't focusing on the tedious aspects of the game as much.

The WoW community sucks, it's full of jerks who take that **** too seriously. Oh and to this guy above me who says PvP is balanced you are a fool, PvP is based strictly on equipment.

You've got the right idea. PvP in this game is awful. In 1 vs 1 situations there is a rock-paper-scissors system with the classes so you won't beat certain classes most of the time. Not only that but it's gear-based so there's no skill required. Along with that, the game is endless grind on identical creatures.
And regarding how stable it is - no one cares. I've encountered for situations where I couldn't log in in WoW than any other MMORPG. I never recall my Everquest servers cashing.

true, but for every diehard jerk there are about 20 casual WoW players more than willing to help you out. Im not saying no one will piss you off, but it definately has nice people.
Try asking for help on Guild Wars, Anarchy Online, or even Eve (which has a nice community imo)....you wont get it.
Not to mention people in WoW actually SOCIALIZE!
As for community SWG was the best (On Bria anyways)... WoW has alot of kids running around yelling "BOOM HEADSHOT" with their hunters... If your in a guild then you might consider it to have a good atmosphere... I personally liked PVE in WoW but it god too repeatitive and PvP is just WAY too easy (was a rogue)... I guess if you have alot of free time then WoW is a pretty good game but in a casual players pov you won't (I doubt high profile guilds will accept people that plays 2hrs a day 3 times a week) so your basically stuck with kids running around bgs spamming death coil or what not...
It was a great game but not enough content for hardcore PvE players and the mindless PvP is just an add-on
i don't know.....been playing on and off for 2 years now and the community never improved -- it's still full of whiners, elitists and hardcore pain in the arse whose idea of spending 15 dollars is ruining the fun of others. I prefer the community of GW.....it's generally friendly and sensible.
YOU'RE GOING TO GET ME EFFIN WIPED!!! HEAL ME, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! YOU ARE SO EFFING STUPID HOW HARD IS IT TO PRESS ONE BUTTON AND HEAL ME!!!!
Yeah, the community is full of friendly people and is one giant chatroom as long as you aren't in the middle of PvE, then it gets ugly.

Actually, I've never had the game. I've played on a friends account once or twice just to make sure I wasn't missing anything and waisting all that money. And mainly I got that post from what I've witnessed by countless video's I've watched and going onto people's vent servers and listening....that stuff really gets funny listening to little kids start screaming and then you hear their parents start yelling at them and ground them. Funny part is, after the parents say they are grounded, they remain on the computer (great parenting genius, when I punish my daughter, she gets punished.)

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure out of the 8.3 million people who play WoW, at least half of them are probably genuinely great people. I mean, atleast half have to be ones that I would want to actually interact with and could hold a conversation with and they aren't cursing, yelling and acting like a child all day while they sit in front of their computer. I was just going off of what I've watched and listened to that was funny. I couldn't post something funny about friends hanging out killing stuff and not yelling at each other while doing it, there's no comedy in that :P
Who knows, I will probably take the plunge one day and get the games and want to pay the monthly fee, because all in all it really isn't that much to pay. But, I enjoy all the games I only have to buy and then can play for free to much right now to want to go and pay a monthly fee to have fun. But seriously, there are just too many people that play WoW to deny that it obviously is doing something right. I just need to suck it up and jump on the band wagon and get with the program.
I prefer the community of GW.....it's generally friendly and sensible.

This has to be a sarcastic comment... The Guild Wars community is by far one of the worst I have ever experienced. Go to any outpost open up chat and just watch what the kiddies are writing. I think anyone with any "sensibility" could see you are wrong.
Yea I've seen most guilds now is runned by pre teens. If your in a mature guild or people who acts their age and cooperates then it would be a blast. I recently played WoW again to see how TBC was and cancelled my account within the hour. Sad to see a game with potential beaten to near death by untamed kids (Parents need to stop blaming others but themselves)modai119
QFT!!! That is too true. I hate the fact that parents are too open to the idea of giving their kid their credit card so that they can play this game. I have seen some of the spelling and listened to them try and hold a conversation and just from the impression I got from those two things leads me to believe that these kids aren't doing to well in school either. Why would a parent buy these games for their kid and continue to pay the monthly fee if the kid isn't even paying attention in school and getting bad grades. Even more so, why are you letting your kid sit in front of the computer all day when he isn't at school.
I know as my daughter gets older, I'm going to want her to game with me and experience games on her own. But, if I ever notice that she is spending more of her time in front of a computer or television, I am going to kick her out of the house for the day :D Make her go spend time with friends and just be a kid.

hmm...that may well be case. i left the game about a year ago, and towards the end of my GW days, i was spending most of time with my guild, which is very friendly. the game could have changed greatly since then, i wouldn't know.
ok to start im not going to bash the game just because i dont like it.
if it were such a terrible game then this many people wouldnt be playing it
i think the reason it is so big is because of its simplicity.
if you play any mmo whether it be DAoC, EQ, Lineage, or whatever else they have moments that are frustratingly difficult.
i personally like this frustration because it brings about challenge but peopel that arent so big into mmo's do not like it.
so if you are going to be serious about playing an online role playing game then pass this by but if you arent going to go insane then it may be great for you
What makes it so great???
Well, it has the best story in PC gaming history.
It has the greatest graphics.
It has the most exciting and intense gameplay. "Easy to learn, hard to master"
The music is the best.
The community is the most mature I have ever been with.
It doesnt cost that much.
Flying mounts!
It never ends!
Gold Farming!
Grinding!
Ganking! (The three G's)
Did I miss anything?

Ya, I saw that video on utube also.
But has that ever, in my nearly three years of playing WoW, happened to me?
Nope. And I doubt its happened to you either. And guess what, if it did happen, just leave...thats the beauty of WoW, if you leave a bad party you dont lose anything since the game is so casual friendly.
Though there are jerks and annoying noobs that constantly whisper you to help em or give em money...
I've seen many people who were nice enough to give me a bag they didn't need, give some gold for no reason, and help out with quests.
Its like in real-life. You meet a lot of jerks but a couple nice folks make your day.
