What mmorpg are you currently playing, and if you have time explain why you like it :).

I play WoW mostly although I am becoming bored so Ill probobly take a break from the game. I will return though since there are still classes I want to try like the rogue, druid maybe palladin. I play WoW becouse I consider it the most complete mmo on the market right now. Most games gave an aspect that they pull off great but at the cost of something else. So WAR has great PvP and crap PvE, except the Public Quest system which due to low player numbers is pointless in some parts of the world unless you find a guildmates willing to help. AoC has great PvE but lacks in a much anticipated feature PvP, akthough once again player numbers play a significant role here. WoW does not do anything "great", but all the elements are good enough making for a satysfing game. No wait, holidays that is something WoW does very well.
Aside from WoW I am playing AoC, becouse its the best looking mmo out right now and it has a great and unique combat system. The classes feel different so for me an altoholic its great. Im also constantly trying f2p mmos but havent really found one that I could stick with. Runes of Magic is pretty good but there are something that just bother me. Allods is a game that I am trying now and so far I like it. The graphics are great. Theyre cartoony like wow but high res and very crisp. This is what WoW should look like after the next expansion, but of course it wont since replacing all textures is a rather large change.
I see someone mentioned GW. I bought it off of Steam when it was on sale but I have to say I cant get into it becouse of the group specific content very early in the game. I like to develop my character a bit before group play.
None atm..Tried to get into star trek online..It was so boring had to quit...IM still paying for the sub till another 3 weeks..Im waiting for star wars to come out..Hopefully thats the mmorpg that brings me back to online gaming..Its been so long since a decent mmorpg came along..Ive tried conan an other games like star trek..Hate wow..So its a wait an see on star wars..
LOTRO free to play beta right now, playing it because its LOTRO and free
Richyd13
Since when was LOTRO free? I might try it now just because it is and I have wanted to for a long time...
Do you know why it's free? Not enough people buying it or something?

From my understanding, Turbines logic came from their MMO Dungeons and Dragons. They made it F2P and revenue went up 50%? (A lot) They decided to take the same approach to LoTRO. I don't think they are having trouble with people not buying it, though.
I played LOTRO for a good 6 months, but i dont have the time anymore (well, i graduated from college, damn it!!). It was great fun and I played it way too much but eventually got to the end (this is before mirkwood) and couldn't get a decent group for the watcher, so its all over
I really love LOTR franchise so that is why i chose the game and it was well worth the 10 bucks a month when i played.
I'm currently playing Darkfall Online. The reasons are because it allows nearly unrestricted pvp, looting your kills, skill-based instead of class-based advancement, twitch combat, aiming all attacks, and it has an open world with no instances.
on the down side.... it sucks.... REALLY BAD... and has almost no players, and one of the worst communities in MMO gaming.I'm currently playing Darkfall Online. You forgot a 0 - DDO revenues went up 500% after the switch to Free to Play, subscriptions increased by over 20% apparently. LotRO Free to Play is currently in Closed Beta... with an NDA. Anyone can sign up for the beta at lotro.com/betasignup/ - and apparently they let just about anyone in if Richyd13 is an example [yes thats a small jab for a minor NDA violation - the NDA for the beta is Full, meaning that you aren't supposed to disclose participation either - but oh well] I am a Lifetime Founder for LotRO and that is my "main" MMO right now (waiting to see if they let me into the F2P beta, I want to see how the store will work out) - I play DDO on the side and sometimes log into GW or RoM.World of Warcraft
not only is it the perfect MMO, but it is pretty much a perfect game.
I like it because:
1. It is entertaining right from the start; from level 1 to level 80
2. It is casual enough that it can be played by anyone, which has given it a large and (generally) friendly community
3. Despite its casual roots, it has a ton of depth so the more hardcore players (or the more casual ones wishing for a richer experience) can pursue more lofty goals if so desired
4. The lore and universe is simply enchanting; humor, horror, drama...contrary to popular belief, if you read the quest text and pay attention, there is an incredibly good story to WoW that surrounds and follows your character as he or she progresses
5. Cool factions, races, and classes
6. Awesome PvE content, especially 5-man dungeons
7. Well supported; I mean, honestly, is any game in the world as well supported by their developer? We get weekly updates, and over the history of WoW we have received an incredible amount of content free of charge, in addition to the expansions
In short, WoW is the only MMO that is truly worth 100% of the monthly fee. Blizzard earns it.
None at the moment. I've played World of Warcraft, which was great, but very repetitive at the end and I just didn't like the game anymore. I might start playing LOTRO once it gets free, though. The downside of this genre is that it takes a lot of time to advance in the game.

Saying this isn't fair to many other mmorpgs that do a great job at providing different playstyles from WoW. If you love WoW, that's fine. Other people are very happy with other mmorpgs and believe that their money is well spent on them.
Falconfury,
so 5k or so subs is "alive and kicking" eh? OOOOOOK *rolls eyes*
play the trial... read some forums.... the consensus is that darkfall is terribad. get over yourself.
I read the Darkfall forums all the time, and I don't see this consensus you are talking about. Take a look at this post, and this post, and this post. Not everyone likes the game, but to say there is a consensus that the game sucks is factually incorrect. I'm trying to backup the things I say with examples and evidence. You are not, so why bother even arguing? If you think the game sucks, that's fine, but don't try to say the game sucks is a fact.
As far as the number of subscriptions, I neither know nor care. What matters is that I see lots of players in the game. If I want to go find enemies to fight, it is easy to do so.
star trek online.....cause.....well.....its star trek.....i get blow stuff up and act like william shatner doing it
