well, I have decided to buy a gtx 570 graphics card so i can use dx11. Previously I had an ASUS P6T SE motherboard but it burned out (please don't talk about the warranty, as asus tells me they will only fix it, rather than give me a replacement , and this will take more than two weeks whihc i can't afford to be without my computer so long)

The motherboard I listed above seems to be discontinued as i can't find it on amazon, newegg or tiger direct. Can you pls tell me what motherboard i should use that's not too expensive? i have a i7 920 with corsair 750 watt (60 amps)

also I REALLY want to play total war shogun with dx11 and tesselation. do you think a dx11 card will make a fairly big difference graphically over my current gtx 295 card?

One of the better priced X58 boards nowadays is the Asus Sabretooth...

For the time being, HW Tesselation and DirectX 11 aren't implemented that much yet. don't know the specifics of 'Total War Shogun', but I feel that since DirectX 11 and HWT are going to grow bigger, the investment is worth it for being future proof. At least, in the short term (3 to 5 years)...

gtx 295 is very similar in preformance to the gtx 570 the 570 is only slightly better in certain games.

is dx11 worth the upgrade.. with a 570 in the cards id say no.. id either go amd and grab a 6970 for 20 bucks more (or the same price) or get a gtx 580 as really then you would see significant gains in preformance

as for a replacement mobo

msi x85m cfx/sli ready (x8, x8 mode) (2 card)

Sure. But I was talking software rather than hardware, meaning that DX11 and HWT aren't supported by many games as of yet. Although there's quite a few games which are being released this year which have both implemented...

the

MSI X58M LGA 1366 Intel X58 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard is a bit cheaper.

Does everyone agree that I should go for this? Also, that the dx11 card is worth getting to future proof? Is the gtx 570 still ok? the gtx 580 is probably too expensive for me!

You're telling someone that a GTX 570 isn't worth it, but a 6970 is? :?

You dont want micro ATX since you wont be able to really expand in the future.

ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

tell me if you disagree. also is there a cheap but decent 1 terabyte harddrive I could buy? I already have one and a half terabytes, but want to add another. is that a problem and will my corsair 750 watts with 60 amps be ok with all this? thanks!

I would like to buy the overclocked 570 gtx graphics card with the above listed motherboard.

EVGA SuperClocked 012-P3-1572-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Someone in the newegg forum said I needed a 1200 watt PSU, but the specs say:

550 watt or greater power supply with a minimum of 38 amps on the +12 volt rail.

Are they talking about the same thing (I know very little about computers) I currently have a 750 watt corsair with 60 amps. Is this enough to use the graphics card? Do i need to buy a 1200 watt PSU, whatever that means??

thanks

also can anyone tell me what cheap 1 terabyte harddrive I should buy and if my fan/powersuppy is enough for all this?

Your PSU is more than enough for that GPU. For a 1TB hard drive, I'd recommend a WD Caviar Black or a Samsung Spinpoint F3.
