Hey guys i am building my rig but i cant decide which psu to get, ima get the hd6950 since u can change the bios and it will be a 6970. Those cards have two power pins so 4 cards will be 8 pins. let me know what psu to get pleaseee

My budget is pretty thigh rite now, so i was looking to spend like 150 for the psu, Im getting one hd 6950 as of rite now but i wanna go dual then tri and finally quad. But i just dont wanna be changing the psu again. Also are there any other gpus coming out? Cuz thats the problem with computer man, u buy one card today and then tomorrow theres another one twice faster and cheaper lol. i heard about the 6990 but i think thats gonna be quite expensive for me, what do u recommend? a video card around 300 also think about crossfire i dont mind getting a older model if am gonna get better results than a single card. thankssssssss
Heres what i got so far.

What is your budget?
My suggestion though is the Corsair Professional Series AX1200 1200W 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Power Supply, it can handle the job.
ThaT-Masta
I agree. A good 1200w should be able to handle four 6950/6970's with relative ease.
The Antec HCP-1200 is the best 1200W power supply on the market. Not cheap at $310, but quality always seems to come at a price...
If you're going to spend that kind of money, why not get a Sandy Bridge? Phenoms are 2 generations behind the Sandy Bridge.C_RuleIs this a good one since is in the price range of the phenom i had on my cart.

Yes, sir. That is an unlocked one, too, so it will be easier to overclock. Can you take a look at the psu, let me know if its worth it.angelyoelLooks good, won't power quad 6950, though. Antec are a good brand for PSUs. According to stats posted a few weeks ago, they had the lowest failure rate for PSUs in 2010, they are also VERY reasonably priced.
i got this two so far
ASRock P67 Extreme4 ATX Intel Motherboard ASRock P67 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P8P67 PRO Intel Motherboard ASUS P8P67 PRO LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Intel Motherboard
The first one says that two cards will run at 8x, and the asus doesnt say anything about that. Also i read it supports quad sli how is that if it only has 3 pci16 slots???

Out of the two, get the ASUS. As for quad crossfire from three PCI-e slots, think dual GPU cards. Two 5970's = 4 GPU cores = Quad crossfire.

If he plans on doing 4 videocards then sandybridge would be terrible right now, his lanes would be limited to 4x.
Agreed. LGA 1366 with X58 is definitely the best option for 3 or 4 card configurations right now.
Yes there is an increase in performance with 3 gpu's and above. However, the scaling usually goes down as you add more gpu's. The only reason I would want to go with 3 or 4 gpu's would be if I were going to go with AMD's Eyefinity or Nvidia's 2D/3D surrround where the extra power would be needed. But, a dual gpu setup is often good enough for that as well with high end video cards. Otherwise, the performance gain wouldn't be worth it.I dunno but is there any performance difference between dual gpu and triple gpu setups and above

I say just get a crossfire setup of 2 X 6950. They're cheaper and perform very well. Either that or the 570 sli

But i dont know if this setup is right anymore since somebody told me that processor is 2 gens behind and i should get those new intel but if i do i gotta change my mobo and that makes it all complicated again since all the mobos ive seen are way to expensive and most of them dont even support 2 video cards at 16x. If i go with this setup i can get two at 16x, and 4 at 8x.
also this mobo looks very good.

Seriously. Who needs more GPU horsepower than that?
Can you guys please take a look at my last setup, i wanna buy it tonite. also take a look at the mobos since i got two there.angelyoel
Go with the Asus mobo. And switch PSU to something like the Antec TPQ1000W. BFG is defunct, so when something goes wrong with the PSU, you've got nowhere to go...

Yes i know but i dont think that psu is going to brake down. Plus i like this psu bcuz it has 8 pins instead of four like that antec and the price is very good. Ima take my chances you never know bro, maybe its worth the try.You REALLY don't want to gamble on the PSU, it could potentially kill every other component in your PC. Also, I do hope you are aware that anything beyond regular crossfire is going to get poor scaling and spotty game support. As far as mobo's go, x8 x8 really will not hurt your performance all that much, its usually like 2-5% vs 16/16.RoggirekSo should i go with the sandy bridge or should i stick with my amd 6 core?
It's really up to you. Personally, if I was spending that much, I'd want the latest and greatest. However, if you DO stick with AMD, you might want to drop to the phenom2 X4 965. No games will take advantage of 6 cores, so you may as well save that cash, and use it on an SSD or save for later.RoggirekI picked that one bcuz i know how pc parts come and go, it just crazy. Also i chose those parts thinking about the future since i dont wanna be changing parts every 3 months feel me. Thanks for your suggestion. Ima take a look at it and see how much id save.

How is 1200 watts overkill for quadfire when each card can use well over 200 watts?
