OK, so i have conquered Japan once, and Europe 3 times. I'm getting kinda tired of taking over Europe over and over again. Im thinking what the location of the next Total War game should be? I was thinking medieval China. It had sever factions and a lot of wars, thinking it would be a good set up. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Persia (Cyrus the Great) Total War? Napoleon Total War? Vikings Total War (Standalone game, completely new) Egypt Total War? (With the pharaos and all) Stone Age Total War! ... no but... -.-
If we're sticking to the real world, I'd like them to revisit Japan rather than going to China. To be honest, war in China featured almost zero technological innovation and not much more tactical innovation between 200BC and 1800AD. That's a whole lot of boredom for one game. There were a lot of wars, but they were all fought in a rather similar way. Not fun.
If not Shogun: Total War 2, though, I'd like to see some sort of Fantasy Total War. They could make up their own setting, or maybe buy the Myth license, or whatever. I'm just sad Namco got the Warhammer Fantasy Battle License and screwed it up so royally with their recent game, instead of the Total War guys.
 i was thinking that - why be limited by history? realistic historical fantasy is just as viable
i don't want them to make a lotr game though, i was thinking something based on steven erikson's malazan book of the fallen series would be perfect for a total war game
probly be something with america, kind of like what AOE3 did - somewhere between Revo war and civil war - the last two major wars where pitched battles were used.
Gosh, A-S_FM, the Malazan books would indeed be the more or less perfect setting, especially if they pushed it a few hundred years into the past or future. I'd buy that game.
I would definetaly welcome a Shogun 2. And LoTR would be good but theres to much of a risk the producers would want it dubbed down for the LoTR fan kids out there.

Why? Not saying you're wrong, but they've always done this, and I've always wondered why, because to me, it seems like a fantasy setting would potentially lead to a wider audience, as well better sequel/intellectual property/spinoff stuff. Did they swear an oath or something?

They're set in actual historical periods, and battles, although fictional, are fought between relatively histoircally accurate representaitons of factions. If they went ahead and did a game set in a fictional environment, it wouldn't be quite Total War - it's be a Total War-like strategy game, but not exactly Total War.
Of course it will be shogun total war 2, it would be kinda cool that the game doesnt finish when you conquer japan, like the last one, but instead when you do conquer it, you could invade china and korea too like the japanese tried to do :D
Maybe an Asia: Total War...so instead of just being Japan it would also include China, Korea, Mongolia, and a bunch of others, ranging from about the same time period as Shogun Total War.
