Hey All,

I made a thread a while back before Christmas about a possible upgrade. Well, it's in the shop being cleaned and the new parts are being installed.

I went from a Q6600 to an i5 3570k. I went from 5GB of DDR2 RAM to 16GB DDR3 Kingston Hyper X. Got a new mobo with USB 3.0. Kept my 560ti as the GPU, and kept my antec 900 case.

I also got an 120GB SSD which I'm going to have my copy of Windows on.

This is really me just being excited for the upgrades, as I haven't really had any in some time (Last I did, my GPU fried and I had to have my old 8800GTS replaced). So what kind of performance increase should I expect from the stuff I've changed?

My girlfriend gave me a SSD for christmas with Windows 8. This made a night and day difference for me. The only drawback is now i no longer have the time to get a snack while my comp boot... lol I think you should see a increase of 10% in fps while gaming with your new CPU with the same GPU but don't quote me on that.

You basically had the same PC as I had, q6600 with 8800GTS to a slightly better 560Ti than my 470, any CPU demanding game will see a big increase, others about 20%.

Lots? New cpu will no longer hold back your gpu from upgrade, q6600 is decent, but the k-bridge intels are great.

A simple ram + cpu upgrade boosted the frames from bottom to top even though I kept my 570 w/q6700 from before. Less minimal frame drops and much higher max fps jump = smooother gaming experience.

I ran my 128gb SSD with my last motherboard, which was an AM3 with no SATA 3. Performance was still way better a regular hard drive.

So! I'm back again. The upgrades are amazing, and I've been seeing about a +25% increase in frame rates across all games. My latency has gone down as well, and booting the computer is very fast. One glaring problem though; I've noticed while playing games my computer freezes. Alt + f4 and cntrl + alt + del doesn't do anything. The computer totally freezes. It happened while playing Chivalry last night, and again this morning while I was playing BF3 a couple times. I've had to reboot the computer each time. It doesn't happen if I'm just browsing the internet, checking email...etc. Only while playing games. Are there any diagnostic tools you guys can recommend to me to pinpoint the issue?

Well you can test whether it's GPU stress related or just game related by running a stress test like Furmark and see if it still freezes. As always make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers for your GPU when you experience problems like this. In fact, it's probably good to make sure you have all the proper drivers installed for all your hardware since you just got a new mobo.

Ok, I'm going to try installing the updated Nvidia drivers to see if that helps.
