I am trying to set up World of Conflict on my friends account on my other computer.

Before I can even login I get this Steamguard message saying I need an email activation code just to login? Well now I have to wait until he's home from work to even login now.

I never got this problem when I logged on to his account on my main computer.

Can I bypass this? My main computer has Windows 7, the other is XP.

There's no way to bypass it, you need to get to his email. It's a new feature I think, it's basically if you login on a computer that you haven't specified, then you need a code that steam will email to you.

Nope. My Steam account is from 2003 and has never been hacked. My WoW account is from 2004 and has never been hacked. Those are pretty much the big games. But nothing of mine has ever been hacked. I use avast anti-virus and that's it. I don't go to stupid sites or click on stupid links. That's how most people get hacked.

Nope.. it's been available for a while. Maybe a week or so.

You *can* disable it under account settings, though I wouldn't recommend doing so. The authorization seems to be a one-time thing.

I like Steamguard and want and extra line of protection. Granted some clown will jailbreak this software someday.;)

I agree 100%. The way it works basically is, if your account is accessed anywhere other than your main PC, the account needs to be verified by email first.

I don't see why this would bother anyone. It's a one time verification, and it's a great way to prevent account theft.

Sure, it may have prevented you from logging onto your friends account, but you shouldn't be doing that in the first place, I guess. And if you need to, then he can simply verify your PC later.

So, you had to wait a couple of hours for him to get home from work to fix this.. Yet Valve may just have saved thousands of gamers the trouble of losing an account, not to mention the trouble they'd have to go through to help recover them.

You must be pretty freaking lazy if getting a code from an email once is to much work for you.

its self imposed DRM which bings a steam account and all of its associated games and details to one PC.. you can turn it back off however with the pc in question accessible and the owners permission but beyond that its tied dow to your firends pc.

its annoying but at least its optional not rammed down your throat.

There isthe understatement of the year. The trouble of recovering these is not worth it, versus just making a new account, I can vouch for that. I would not recommend messing this up. I learned this the hard way when my kid used another one of our computers about a month ago.

... if you have over 100 games on your account, the last thing you'll be thinking about is "just making a new account". As long as YOU log into YOUR account on onlyONE computer, nothing will happen to your account. You can have Steam and all your games loaded on a 100 different machines, but you can only be logged into ONE. ...... the lesson here is don't ley ANYONE touch your account ever for any reason, or expect problems.

All Steam Guard does is send an email to the owner whenever the account is accessed on a new computer. That email contains a code to access the Steam account on a new computer. Once you do this code, that computer can be used for that Steam account over and over.

There is no limit either.
