I've played about 8 hours of Battlefield Bad Company 2 today and I just can't seem to get the hang of it. Before I decide to write off the game as crap I would like to ask you all what the hell am I doing wrong?

Whenever I am shooting at an enemy it seems as though only about 1/4 of the bullets that LOOK like they should be hitting him are actually doing any damage. When I do hit them consistently it seems like it takes nearly a full clip to actually kill someone. I have using the Assault class, mainly the X8. I thought that maybe I just suck at the game and need the red dot to help me out. Well, I unlocked the red dot and it doesn't seem to be any different.

Please if you are a GOOD BFBC2 player please tell me what the hell I am doing wrong because if this game had better core ground shooting mechanics I would absoultely love it.

For some reason when i started the game i was owning (like 15-2) ect for every game. Now i seem to get 1.5-1 if i'm lucky(end rant) I think i know what your talking about however, you just have to use bursts instead of firing while jumping moving ect.

Are you used to playing MW2? TF2? CS:S? etc... (fastpaced shooters) I had the same problem as you at first with the game, I sucked getting like 1-7 k/d and like 150-350 points a game. Now I get 1500-2500 points a game. You can't play this like a fast paced shooter, it is a lot more tactical so play it as such, you should be with a squad at all times, so if you are shooting someone other people also are too. Kill assists in this game are just as important as actual kills. Maybe BC2 isn't right for you, it really isn't a fast paced arcade style shooter like mw2, and trying to play it like that will get your ass killed... a lot.

That may be my problem. I get A LOT more assists than actual kills. I keep trying to shoot while strafing and from long distances. I'm starting to get a little better but any advice is welcome and appreciated.

This game is completely crap. There is nothing good about it, literally nothing. I was decent at Battlefeild, I always got 19 + kills, of course there were some instances where I didn't, however mainly I carried my whole team. This game is literally garbage. It does indeed take forever to kill people, even headshots take forever, you have shoot people three times with a tank, etc. Sniper Rifles require you to headshot them 2-4 times before killing them depending on the damage they've taken through other players. This game is a total waste of money.

Stand still and crouch, and fire in bursts, max. 3 bullets a time with XM8 or you won't hit anything.

If you like to just shoot you should be medic, low recoil on those LMG's especially the M249

Well if you are playing MW2, i can see why this is a problem for you. Unlike MW2, bullets do not hit instantly. There is bullet drop which makes sniping alot more challeging but very rewarding once you get a hand of it.

Best way to use rifles:

-Aim at the upper body, body shots do more damage.

-Lead your victim, as i said, bullets travel.

-Fire in burst, even as a medic.

-Know you job, there isnt a sniper class, Recon. Help your teammates, move forward, use the Q button to spot your enemies any chance you get. If you are a medic, well thats pretty much straight forward, dont be lazy, revive your teammates if they are close to you. If you are en engineer, HIDE and HIDE!! Pick your targets carefully, and heal tanks. If you are an assault give ammo whenever possible.

-Do not camp. It doesnt work on this game. Take the less popular paths. Flanking does wonders.

-Pick your target carefully, this isnt MW2 where you can take out 3 people with one clip.

It takes some getting use ot.

At first in the beta I was having a really hard time, even though I play alot of shooters and am a Battlefield vet.

Just give it some time and practise and you will improve and appreciate the game more!
Its not liek Halo or Call Of Duty where you can just pick up and do great right off the bat (at least not for most people).

Just keep playing bud!

Thanks a lot. This should help. I wasn't taking bullet travel time into account. Lets see if this works....

So just because its hard for you to kill people it sucks? Come on now, thats silly.

Counterstrike Source and battlefield Bad Company2 both are hard for me to get kills, but that makes it all the most satisying when i do get them. Plus with time I get better and better. It just has a longer learnign curve then other games.

I haven't been holding down (unless they were RIGHT in front of me) but I was shooting about 5-7 bullets with each burst. I've since chaned my bursts to about 3 bullets and I have been leading targets and already I am doing much better.

As mentioned above, aim for the head if you can. Your bullets do alot more damage that way. If sniping and your enemy is far away, aim a bit above the head to make up for bullet drop.

I think 2 bullets at a time is better. What he should be doing if he has a machine gun is to constantly be clicking the mouse one button and never hold it down unless the enemy is right in front of your face.

If you're just getting into the game, a big part of killing is knowing the maps. Places to hide, the spots that people frequent, and areas that have worked well in the past will make your next match that much easier. Also, as you rank up the guns you unlock and little upgrades you receive make a small yet noticeable difference. For some reason, I became a killing machine around the time I made level 6 playing mostly assault.

Also you want to make sure that your graphics settings are tuned to run as smooth as possible. Sure, the game won't look as pretty if you tone the settings down a bit, but skipping even a couple frames here and there is a huge disadvantage.

After considering this, killing is pretty much like any other FPS. Sub-machine guns work best in spurts at medium range, machine guns have higher accuracy when emptying the clip at close range, and pistols/knives are your friend. Aim for the upper body, and always stay on the move unless you're just owning the map like that war hero on Inglorious Basterds.

If it's a non-hardcore server you will need to hit them in the head with your shots. The game is pretty random at times though. That's what bugs me a lot of the time.

Sometimes, but it usually is "random" up close. Honestly, i find it better to blind fire up close, than actually aiming, even then i still use burst.

The problem is the game can't decide weather or not it wants to lean towards realism or arcade.

You have this semi realistic bullet physics, which forces you to lead targets, compinsate for drop and burst fire to control spread.
On the other hand it takes a rediculous amount of time and bullets to drop someone which is arcade.

If you take CS/S for example accuracy and gun control are key as well but dropping the enemy takes only a few bullets if not 1. On the flipside you have TF2 where it is a lot easier to hit the enemy but people can take a lot more damage.

personally, when i first started playing multiplayer i found it easiest to kill with the medic machine guns compared to all the other weapons, since they have lower recoil. try playing maps with shorter hit ranges as medic or assault and then as time goes by you should get more and more comfortable with longer ranges where leading is bullet drop become significant factors in your shots. my first long range shots were complete misses and i didn't know what the hell was going on until i took medic and started following the assault guys everywhere. also, spotting is vital.

Aiming carefully and firing in bursts is important - also don't charge into enemy lines unless you are doing a huge flanking manouver, you will get chewed to pieces, instead stick with your team and move up slowly.

You can also use the generous amounts of health to your advantage - if you start taking hits, and you don't know exactly where the bullets are coming from, just book it and find cover. If you cant find cover just sprint and zig-zag all over the place. I have started dying a lot less using such tactics.

I gotta disagree with you there. Sustained firing actually *increases* accuracy (with medic LMG's).

If you're having trouble actually killing other opponents, it would be best if you played a support class. I know I'm not good as assault, so I'm the medic. Just revive anyone that gets hit and get the same amount of points if you kill someone.

I HATE medics! I can't stand being revived after I have spent 20 bullets from my clip. I just die right away. Anyway I started playing some Hardcore matches and I am MUCH MUCH better at those.

Er no it doesn't, I can pick off snipers at long range burst firing with the LMG.. sustained fire just shakes the barrel and is only advisable at close range when you need to put someone down fast.
