SO Ive been thinking that I kinda need to change my video card since most of the games i have are having trouble with my Nvidia GT220. And i was also thinking of buying the Starcraft and my card barely covers the minimum system requirement so I was wondering that what card should I buy. I have a Dell XPS 8100 with Intel i5 @ 3.2Ghz with 8GB RAM and my PSU is 350Watt. besides that i don't know anything else. So any help would be greatly appreciated since i am not really hardware proficient. I mean i do like to research a lot but never tried installiung something major.

Something like a 6870 or a 560ti and a new PSU is what I would recommend.

What's your budget? You will need a new power supply if you want to get a half decent GPU.

Toxic-Seahorse

About $200, I mean I can buy a decent psu and after that the GPU with a gap between them so as not to put too much strain on my budget. How much watt you recommend.

But would that create any problems with my PC? since I've been using NVIDIA from past 2 years.

I should have said, the 7770 is if you dont want to replace the PSU.

If you can replace it, many more options are available,

PSU is easy,

1. Look for a good brand, Antec, Corsair, Coolermaster, Thermaltake

2. Make sure its 550 or 600 watt.

3. Install it.

7770 on a 350W PSU? I wouldn't do that. Get a proper PSU and you'll have no worries. As for the graphics card, GTX 460/560 (1GB, non SE) or HD 6850/6870 is what you should be looking at.

7770 consumes no more than 80-85W on load http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2012/02/15/amd-radeon-hd-7770-1gb-review/8 ( 142W for the whole system ) so he will be ok But i agree still its better to get a decent 450-500W and get a 6850 which is slightly faster than 7770 for cheaper or a 6870 which is 20-25% faster for a bit more The same goes for nvidia gtx560 ( on the level of 6870 )

any card south of the gtx 460/560 SE made by nvidia isnt worth buying. amd have basically total domination of that price/preformance bracket.

well if you want to go lower than get an hd 6790 again solid preformer

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2330434&CatId=28

i also lopped 20 bucks off your price tag.

basically the 6790 is a low power hd 4890 with like 90% better driver support (amd horribly supported the hd 4890)

I totally agree with you here. Another friend of mine told me the same thing. I'm just going to measure my psu and then buy it from newegg or tigerdirect.

$200 can get you a good 500-600 watt psu and an ATI 6850

kraken2109

yup, my PSU(600 watt) was actually only $50 and my gtx 560 was $150, so I can say for sure you can get something good with just $200.

I think it is worth mentioning that most benchmarks placed the 7770 as <550 ti when not over clocked, in some instances it seems to have been benched as > 6850 so it is for sure important to get an OC edition if not too late. Motherboards.org actually place an OC 7770(XFX black edition) as > 6870

If it is too late(or not) don't forget how excellent these newer cards are for OCing.

550ti loses to a gtx 460SE. the 6790 ands 7770 are both over the 460SE the 6850 is above everything in my post.
