Hey guys I am looking for a new tv to play games on only. I am looking for a big tv 42 inches and higher. I will be playing old and new gaming consoles for example sega megadrive, snes, dreamcast, ps2, 360. My friend keeps going on about getting a plasma for gaming. I have been researching the plasma, lcd and led tvs and plasmas seem to be the cheapest is there a reason for this. Please guys from your experences can you tell me what is the best tv for me to play my games on. I will very rarely use it for tv or films but may do at some point.

For old school systems a CRT TV will do much, MUCH better than any flat panel display. But if that's out of the option plasma is your best choice.

may I recommend the 42" Panasonic UT50.

The cheaper plasmas are usually 720p panels, which is actually better for console games.

One thing I'd advice you to look into is latency. If the TV supports a straight video channel for a Pc signal, that would be best. Many Tv's do signal processing on incoming video feeds, and that processing will add latency to the signal which is bad for games - latency is the amount of time it takes for an input on the controller to actually show up on the screen.

Once you narrow it down to a few models, chekc out reviews and consumer comments. If it's carried by a store, see if they'll let you hook up something like a laptop to it. How fast the mouse cursor moves on the screen cna help you determine latency issues.

For old school games, CRT sets are still the best way to go. For new stuff, I recommend going with a Panasonic plasma. Biggest disadvantage is screen glare, but as long as you can control your lighting in the room or mostly do night time viewing/playing, you'll be fine. For the most part, image retention and burn in is a thing of the past. It's still possible, but it's not something I'd worry about. For the first 150-200 hours that you have the set, try to avoid having static images on the screen for long periods. Also, avoid putting the set in torchmode (brightness jacked up).

If you choose the LCD route, I'd still go Panasonic. In my experience, their IPS panels handle input lag better than VA panels that you'll find in most other TVs.

Plasma for gc/Xbox/ps2 gen onward. A good CRT or dlp projector for anything before.

I personally would recommend an LED TV with high contrast ratio, low latency and high refresh rate. Avoid TVs with extra frills as these affect processing times; i.e. a Smart TV isn't the smartest choice. Also, "studio" monitors (meant for static graphics processing) area terrible choice.

What's your price range?

The best bang for your buck is probably going to be the Panasonic ST50. Plasma with smart apps and 3D. (size ranges from 50" to 65")

If you're not looking for a smart TV and don't care about 3D, check out the Panasonic U50 (also a plasma and only comes in a 50" size)

It's a nice TV. As far as gaming goes, I don't know if I'd go that route. If you do go LCD, I still recommend Panasonic. I feel like their IPS panels handle input lag better than VA panels. Of course not everyone perceives input lag the same. You might not ever notice it on the Samsung.

No that TV is balls. Panasonic plasmas (UT50, ST50) or the Samsung PNE6500 plasma is a much, much better choice.

Ok but the price is a bit to high for me. Is this plasma any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAMSUNG-PS43E450A1WXXU-Series-4-43inch-Plasma-TV-600Hz-1024-x-768-HDMI-USB-/190699648537?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_Video_Televisions&hash=item2c6695b619#ht_1476wt_1270

It is an entry level plasma and the resolution is only 1024x768 :p What is your budget? I would always recommend plasma over LCD, at any price range because A ) plasmas have better picture B ) plasmas are cheaper. For instance Samsung 6000 series plasma costs the same as 5000 series LED, but performs better than 8000 series LED!.

I only have about £320 to spend on the tv. I decided go go for a 43 inch samsung plasma 3d and yes it only has 1024x768 resolution also. I got it new on ebay for £310 including postage I see on tescos it was £385 so saved a bit there. link is here for tv. I hope I will not be disappointed with the picture quality. However most reviews say it has a great picture. Before this tv I always went for lcd or led tvs and this will be the first plasma I get because its mainly for gaming. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110925433011?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_2673wt_1270
