I started playing online games as soon as I bought ut2k4 and to tell you the truth I was scared and shy. I thought the people on the mics were some "cool" or "popular" group of "elite" gamers. That is until someone called me a douche bag, and other such profanity words, and I was extremly intimidated and actually felt like crying. I was somewhere between 8 at the time, and yes my parents didnt allow me to go online. But then again the next day, after hearing that s*** again I started cussing outta my mind at that person. Just picture an 8 year saying all the existant profanity words in the dictionary.

My first experience with online gaming was Ultima Online. I can't say what I thought of that community without getting into trouble with the Gamespot moderators but I can say why.

There were two big reasons. The first was the players. I ran into way to many player killers. That game had so many ways to be a jerk and the PKers used them all. The worst of the bunch was the guy who got mad at me for not thanking him when he killed me and took only one thing from my pack. He even damanded that I apologize.

The other reason was the game itself. There was no name check. As a result I ended up picking a name that some else already had. That other person just happened to be one of the biggest jerks in the game. I caught a lot of grief because of this.

My experience with this game was so distastful I didn't give MMO's another chance until World of Warcraft and Guild Wars came out.

First game I played online was IL2 and man... I got owned. It's so hard to get decent at flight sim games. I shot down one, maybe two people after the first 3 weeks of playing.

Playing an online tank game called Tanarus way back in the mid 90s. To me it was revolutionary how you could team up with other players to dominate a map. When everything went smoothly and your whole team was on the same page, it was beautiful. Total ownage.

Starcraft... I didn't talk very much online either. I also played BGH maps, so there was very little possibility for any criticism of my young, impressionable mind. Just mass to the unit cap and charge :P

Mine was Diablo, but I played with a friend online so I wasn't scared at all. The second game I played online was starcraft, and well... that scared me. People are pretty harsh and insulting there, and some of the 'pros' really kill you in the game. That didn't totally turn me off from online play though. I still play Diablo 2, UT2004, and I'm testing a few MMO RPG, but I play them like single player and rarely interact with strangers.

Play perfect world!

First Online Experience was Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Oh my...what good times when i was 11.
Later on though I became a lot more involved in Age of Mythology's Online Multiplayer which introduced me into actually interacting with people online, man that was fun.

Call of Duty 2 was my first true online experience with people other than my friends. It was hectic, but fun. So many funny conversations going on every now and then.

Payed per minute? Was it at home or internet cafe?

I remember playing Diablo on my dial up internet, but I didn't know there was such thing as internet bandwidth limit. The internet bill ended up being about $700 and yea... my mother was pretty pissed. That part did kinda discourage me to play online for a while until the unlimited DSL thing came out.

Well my first online experience that got me into pc gaming was bf 1942. I remember looking at trailers and such and seeing all the vehicles, soldiers, and guns that made me want to get the game right away. The game made me so immersed that transformed me into a WWII fanatic.

Same here. I eventually got vent and it definately got interesting, there are some interesting people out there. Some are crazy, some are hilarious, and a few, well, downright annoying. :)

The first game I played online was either Star Trek Elite Force back in 2000 or Legend of Mir 2, my first MMO in 2001 again.

Star Trek was on dial up and was laggy as hell. The guys who were lucky enough to have ISDN were flying around. I started Legend of Mir just as I got my first broadband connection @ 512mbs which I thought was unbelievably fast at the time.

online lightsaber battles in Jedi Academy. It was crazy, but damnit it's still one of the best and most unique online games ever. i wish more games were like that. it was also pretty cool that you can't attack people with their lightsabers turned off. i learned that the hard way.

I started with HL1 deathmatch. It was hard trying to find a server with more than 10 people. But it really entertained me at a young age.

I thought it was amazing! Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. I had the wheel and everything. Played till it began to be a problem.

Then stopped and BF 2...and that was a bigger problem. I don't play online now. I have to keep a roof over my head
