First Age of Empires, I remember I used to put custom maps, with everyone stuck on the first age in an island. It felt like we were actually stranded on an island and we had to make do with what we had.
It was either Total Annihilation, Command and Conquer: Red Alert, or Myth: The Fallen Lords. That's the furthest I can remember, but I'm pretty sure there were earlier games.
Said a bro..Westwood how i miss them..Master of magic was my first rts..Along with civilization my other one..Man i used to play both time in and time again..Actually the one game today close to Master of magic is Elemetal of magic..Its not a bad game either..

Warcraft 2 - remember seeing it for the first time and thinking - whoa! that's neat. I'd never seen anything like it before.The clever unit responses - neat combat mechanics and it's whimsical tone all made for quite a unique experience at the time. PC games used to be the **** back in the day.
C&C Gold Edition is the first one I can remember. There was also Red Alert, Dune 2, and Age of Empires. I'm pretty sure C&C was the first though. I believe I played Dune later after I fell in love with C&C.
Loved all the historical scenario campaigns that you play though with an etched graphic narration (only problem was just a few too short). Multiplayer on-line and LAN matches where awesome if sometimes strung out. Unique units for each race. Monk conversions always made me lol when you did it frequently on-line ;D. One of the best early map editors that I could remember. Makes me want to boot it up again and play all over :D
Oh i think it was command and conquer generals that got me into RTS games and then on out i have enjoyed playing them ever since but it looks like im getting a bit board of them "For" some odd reason think it just cause tehy have not brang out new RTS games this year need to wait till 2012
Oh also did eney 1 loved supreme commander games i hear "Gas Powered Games" is making a game cauld Kings & castles but i think its berncanceled
Hands down, my favorite and first RTS that got me into them was - Dune: The Battle for Arrakis on Genesis. The next RTS game I enjoyed was the original Warcraft. After that I've been a fan of RTS, though the feeling of actually enjoying them comes and goes. Right now I'm playing Company of Heroes and having a good time....so we'll see how long it lasts.
