i had pretty frustrating experiences recently with divine divinity (wouldn't read the second cd) and jade empire (had trouble reading from the dvd, so i had to copy and paste everything onto the hard drive and install from there). with divine divinity, it was kind of funny, cuz i was getting pretty frustrated and was cursing the game, but then i realized i had put disc 3 in instead of disc 2, so i was like, 'silly me,' and laughed at myself for my stupid mistake. then i put disc 2 in, and it still wouldn't read it. so i got all frustrated again and yelled at it some more. 'i knew it! i was right to curse you, you stupid game!!!'

anyway, what was your most frustrating experience and how did you solve the problem (or what did you end up doing (i.e., return the game, smash the discs with a hammer, etc.))?

If you were to load WoW right now, it would take 5 years with all the patches and loading the 5 discs.

My most frustrating experience was similiar to yours. I no longer remember exactly which game it was. I do remember it was 5 or 6 CD's and "Atari" was the publisher. I remember the Atari part because I have found that most games where I have install problems have their name on it somewhere...

The frustration was that the game was heavily compressed, so installation was very slow, and the install aborted due to a read error on the very last CD. Something like an hour and a half of installation, just to have it fail. This happened 3 times in a row before Igot smart and copied all of the CD's to my hard drive and installed from there. An entire evening lost, basically, to install just one lousy game. Good thing we had some good movies rented or I'd have been really pissed, not just frustrated.

Most recently it has been my digital download copy of Theif: Deadly Shadows that I got from Direct 2 Drive a while back. It worked great when I first got it but now I can't even get the game to run once it is installed. I guess I'm going to have to deal with their tech support.

Yeah, I entirely agree - it would probably also cost around 10 gigs of HD space and a fair whack on my internet usage.

Gears Of War. Bloody UE3 is eating up a wagon of disk space.

And any game that after finishing the job with CD number 3 requiers to insert number one again. This always makes me mad.

I've yet to be able to get anything on Steam to work since moving to Thailand, so they're all write offs.

I had a helluva time installing FEAR, Civ IV, and Bioshock. Both used some bastard form of SecuROM and my PC does not play well with SecoROM. I had to get special .exes from SecuROM before I could get either game to run at all. FEAR was especially annoying because it would auto-update and then not run again and I'd have to wait 3-4 days for the jokers at SecuROM to release another modded .exe for each patch.

As for uninstalling, nothing beats my Ruins of Myth Dranor experience. It completely wiped my hard drive. Very pleased about that, I was.

world of warcraft is a horrible installation experience for the first time. It's not even the type of installing that you can just leave and come back to it later for it to be finished. I recently loaded up my sims 2 games and that wasn't very fun..

Nevermind, i just install it again and uninstall the others.. ^^

Easily Bioshock for me. My antivirus detected the exe file as a virus, and it would not let me play it until I removed the AV software completely. Add to the that the BS about a limited number of installs, and it becomes the most ludicrous copy protection I've ever encountered.

I here people say that about the copy protection but my copy is on 3 computers now and they all run fine. My 2 and I let a friend borrow it and he's had no problems with it.

It wasn't that bad. Definitely not as fun as the first though.

i think people often misunderstand bioshock's copy protection system. many think that it's a 5 times install limit, but it's actually a 5 computers at the same time install limit .
